5 Beauty Products to keep makeup in place

When I am planning a long day or night I want my makeup to stay put. After years of dancing up a storm, then looking in the mirror and realising you weren’t quite the goddess that left the house 6 hours ago. In fact, the image staring back is pretty scary.

Smudged Eyeliner
Faded Eyebrows
Eyeshadow in the creases
Makeup around your collar
Nude Lips
Wild hair

I can’t help with the hair but I can share the awesome products I use to keep my makeup where it should be.

5 Beauty Products to keep makeup in place

Start with clean, moisturised skin.

Benefit The PORE Professional
I how did I live without this product. This minimises the appearance of pores, makes your makeup smoother and last longer. I apply a pea sized amount all over my face avoiding the eye area. I apply after moisturiser and eye cream.

Benefit Stay Don’t Stray
This is great for the eye lids and under eye bags. A little goes a long way. I just apply 2 dots under the eye and one on top. Gently pat into place

Motives Eye base
This is when I’m serious about my makeup not going anywhere. Eyeshadow won’t settle in creases, it won’t slip down your face and it won’t fade away. It might not ever come off! I use my nail to dig out a teeny, little piece and then apply to my lid area up to my brow bone. This not only creates a great base but it’s also a nice neutral colour to use as your base colour.

Napoleon Perdis The One Concealer
I pat this over my under eye bags, over the top of the Benefit Stay Don’t Stray. This just works for me and is the right colour to counteract purply shadows

Motives Makeup Setting Spray
This shiz is da bomb. Not only does it set the makeup up, it makes you look amazing. You only need about 4 sprays and it’s stops makeup from settling into wrinkles and pores as the night progresses. It’s like airbrushing in a spray.

  1. I absolutely love the Benefit primer – serious game changer right there. Loving the sound of that makeup setting spray.

  2. Gabrielle says:

I also love the sound of the makeup setting spray! Is there anywhere local to purchase, or do you have to go mail order via their site?

    • I know you can order it online through the Motives website. I have a friend that sells it, Rebecca Kate Makeup. Let me know if you’d like her details x

  3. Lisa Mckenzie says:

I like makeup setting spray too but never tried this one, when I run out I will, thank you ,great post!

  4. Love the sound of the spray! Must get my hands on that pronto! Xx

  5. I have tried none of these. I must get out there and give them a go. V x

  6. I’ve tried the Porefessional! Love that but I’ve found another cheaper version from L’Oreal 😉 If you want to go a bit more luxe, try the one from Lancome. Can’t remember the name sorry but it’s really good too. For eyes, I use the one from Urban Decay, which came together with my Naked 1 palette.

  7. I use MAC Paint Bamboom as a base for all my eye make up. It does not move! The Benefit They’re Real Eyeliner stays put like a boss. Norlin, i heard the Urban Decay eye primer is fantastic, is it called Insurance or something like that?
Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation ( I wear the super covering Camouflage foundation) but there are lighter versions as well.
I use a setting spray as well. ( I used to use hairspray but i think we are a tad more sophisticated now!) I use the E.L.F Make up Mist and Set is Awesome and ELF Lock and Seal is fab as well. Both are $8 online or from Kmart. Any of the Lime Crime Velveteen lip paints stay on 8 hours+ and so does the Australia Lip Velours. Barbe x

    • The Benefit Eyeliner is AMAZING! My favourite so far. I have been hearing about the Estee Lauder foundation and I’m desperate to try it. In fact, I want to hunt down everything you have mentioned. Awesome suggestions. x

  8. Setting spray and pore professional now on top of my list. Desperately need both. Thanks for the tips x

  9. Thanks so much for that Rachel. I hope to hit the Queen Street Mall on Sunday…..only SLIGHTLY excited…..(can’t even remember the last time I was in the city…..) do you think could get all of these there. I really want to find a Benefit Brow Bar (after reading about it on Sonia Styling) where can I find one. I need some hot shopping tips girlfriend!!! I would love that spray, and the pore minimiser, where do we get them? As I say to Sonia Styling —- yes, I have been living under a rock for way to long up here in Woop Woop NT……look out BrisVegas!

  10. good tips thanks Rachel! …
I’m lazy and I want easy and natural though!
you’re such a character … you crack me up! … a good thing! lol m:)X

  11. I just purchased the POREfessional, I wish I had bought the Benefit Stay Dont stray at the same time. Oh well, next order might be sooner rather than later.

  12. I am clueless about make-up but always have this problem. Everyday my foundation wear off around my (red) nose and when I go out at night I can look messy to horrific, depending on how much fun I’ve had. Thanks for this list, I must try some of them. That spray sounds amazing!

  13. Make up setting spray?!? Still my beating heart! Ordering now

  14. Stay don’t stray is one of my faves! Just wish it existed back in the 90’s! xx
