Quick Messy Summer Hair

Quicky messy hair is my go-to hair style. I don’t have the patience or the skill to do anything else. Lucky, a few years ago I taught myself how to do easy beachy waves (you can see the easy video here), else my go-to-do would be a top knot.

Quick Messy Summer Hair

I start with frizzy morning hair. I realise I would get a better result with a blow dry, but I don’t want to damage my hair further with extra heat and this saves time. Before I go to sleep I put some styling product in my hair so it’s ready for styling in the morning, then I give it a spritz of ghd heat protector.

15390917_10153972398250951_2815026313533840268_n

then I grab my ghd platinum copper luxe to give some loose beachy waves – tutorial here.

Let the waves cool, then run your fingers through to break them up and look less like ‘sausage curls’

Then because I have very fine hair and not much of it, I will only need one bobby pin. Feel free to grab a few more if you’ve been blessed with a gorgeous mane.

I create a messy 1/2 up do by wrapping my hair around the pony, then loosen it out and give it a good spray with hair spray.

What’s your go-to-do?

My Bedroom Style

There is not much that I love as much as fresh, clean sheets on my bed. If I wasn’t so lazy, I’d probably change them every second day instead of once a week.

My Bedroom Style – It’s all about Comfort

My taste is clean and comfortable, with a touch of boho and always with soft, white sheets. I only own white sheets and this includes the girl’s rooms too. I would love to have a collection of gorgeously printed, sheets to mix and match, but in the end I always go for white. They look so fresh and, with the right products, are easy to keep bright white. No need to worrying about fading.

Bamboo Village

Plus, I don’t like to over accessorise. I need cushions I can throw myself onto, nothing precious, delicate, or uncomfortable and definitely nothing that needs to be removed before you can lay on the bed. Just good tough cushions.

Most importantly, good quality, white sheets. You spend so much time in bed, you want to make it the very best experience you can afford.

At the moment I am obsessed with Bamboo Sheets and currently have a set of Mulberry Threads Co Organic Bamboo sheets (you can buy from Bamboo Village here). This might sound like an expensive mouthful, but they’re not and they are completely worth it. Bamboo are the perfect Summer sheet. Did you know that bamboo is thermal regulating and keeps you cooler in Summer (and warmer in Winter)?

Finish off the look, with a well placed Cavoodle.

A little bit more about Bamboo

I’ve been a fan of bamboo for years. It started off with a meeting with the lovely ladies from Bamboo Body and still going strong with the great team from Bamboo Village. Bamboo is a is a wonderful fabric for so many reasons:

1. Bamboo Eco-friendly. It’s a natural, highly sustainable resource that requires no chemicals and very little water to grow, plus it absorbs more carbon dioxide from the air than either cotton or timber and releases more oxygen into the environment which improves air quality.

2. It’s Hypoallergenic, naturally repelling dust mites. mould and mildew

3. It has natural antibacterial properties and is 30% less susceptible to odours than cotton

4. It’s highly absorbent, wicking away 60% more moisture from your body than cotton

5. Bamboo is 100% natural and biodegradable

You can read a little more about it here.

This is not a sponsored post, but I was gifted with the product from Bamboo Village. This is a product I love and will purchase over and over for myself and my family.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them Review

I recently took the girls to the Redcliffe Hoyts cinema to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them. The new movie written by JK Rolling, the lady behind Harry Potter. What a fun movie! I haven’t read any of her books, nor watched any of the Harry Potter movies, so I was going in with no expectations, thoughts or assumptions at all.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them Review

I’m not sure I completely understood it but was a ride. As you would expect, Eddie Redmayne as Newt was good. He is always going to be great in anything. But I really loved the relationship between the gorgeous Queenie (Alison Sudol) and Jacob (Dan Fogler). I hope this follows though in the next one.

Oh, and hello to the very handsome Colin Farrell as Percival. He’s always so lovely to see on the big screen.

Visually it was stunning, the costumes, sets, the creatures … all of it.

The whole family really enjoyed it but after the movies (and for a while beforehand) our conversations were all about the newly renovated cinemas.

Redcliffe Hoyts Newly Renovated Cinema

Seriously awesome.

Leather reclining lounges, loads of leg room, generous arm and table space. No more bums in faces when people need to sneak out to pee. You have an individual electric button to raise and lower your seat!! The girls have insisted that this is the only cinema they will ever go to.

Great work Redcliffe Hoyts, I’m looking forward to many more hours curled up on your sofa seats!

Sirens Swimwear: Shopping at home

Summer is almost here and I can feel it all ready. I adore Summer in Queensland. I’m dreaming of long, hot, lazy days with family and friends. Starting the day tossing up between pool or the beach and ending it with sundowners, trying to decide between an icy cold Corona or chilled champagne … and settling on both.

Another hard Summer decision … is swimwear, always swimwear.

Sirens Swimwear: Shopping at home

Like many people, I really don’t enjoy trying and buying swimwear in the store. I’d rather take my time and do it in the comfort of my home. This is one of the reasons I absolutely love Sirens Swimwear. I tried their Try 5 at Home last year and found it so easy and convenient to have a selection sent to me, so I can take my time trying them on. Not only do they make it easy to shop, they also make fantastic, flattering swimwear.

With Summer coming and I was looking for a new swimsuit, it was an easy decision to hit the Sirens website again to selected another 5 to try at home. It was hard trying to decide on only one set. In the end, I had to get my girls to help make the decision for me.

More about Try 5 at Home

You select 5 pieces from their size 8-20 range, pay $199 and they sent the 5 pieces plus a return bag. You try them on in a calm, flattering environment, maybe with a glass of champagne. Keep what you want and then return the rest and pay the difference.

Special promotion! Sirens have offered Redcliffe Style readers the opportunity to Try 5 at Home for a deposit of $149 instead of $199. Just use the code: redcliffestyle149

The Girl on the Train Review

Are you a read-the-book-before-the-movie or after the movie type of person? I love a great book and I read The Girl on the Train when it first came out, I’m going to suggest that you avoid the book before you see this movie. Sometimes it adds to the movie and sometimes it doesn’t. I think I was one of the few people in Hoyts Redcliffe not surprised by the twists.

The Girl on the Train Review

Emma Blunt is amazing! She is captivating on screen. She plays the main character, Rachel. Rachel is a raging alcoholic, riding the train and obsessed with a couple she sees through the window, a couple who appear to be deeply in love and living Rachel’s idea of a perfect life. Then one day Rachel sees something upsetting through the train window and the next morning she wakes up covered in blood. Thanks to copious amounts of alcohol, she doesn’t remember anything nor is she a credible witness.

Everyone in the movie is excellent. Excellent, gorgeous and complicated. They might not be likeable but they were very good at being unlikeable. It’s dark and moody and captured the feeling of the novel so very well. It’s hard to say anything without giving spoilers.

For the local readers, a little update on our local Hoyts Redcliffe Cinema. They are currently undergoing a full retrofit! This will be mean superior seating and they will remain competitively priced. This is exciting for the Peninsula.

Just like the our new exciting train station where I took photos of another Rachel, pretending to wait for a train, while completely sober.

What I wore: Watering the Garden

It was such a warm, sunny day yesterday that I threw on a dress for watering the garden and become one with nature. I was like a little chameleon, hidden against the background.

I adore long, light, printed dresses for Summer. They replace the denim that features heavily in my wardrobe the other 9 months of the year. I’ve already started picking up a few dresses in preparation of a gorgeous, hot Queensland Summer – like this one here.

What I wore: Watering the Garden

My most recent addition is this Privacy Please, cold shoulder, dress from Revolve. How gorgeous is the print and the sleeves!? So beautifully feminine and so easy to wear.

FRANKiE4 Spring Summer 16 Styling Challenge

I recently joined the amazing FRANKiE4 team and a wonderful selection of local bloggers at the new FRANKiE4 headquarters to check out the new Summer Spring collection and participate in the FRANKiE4 Spring Summer 16 Styling Challenge. Which really means playing with shoes and clothes, giggling, sipping champagne and taking a few photos. It was a very fun way to spend a Saturday and before you ask, the new collection is a complete winner.

My picks – the Latte NiKKi, CHLOE in Latte/Champagne and the new beige ELLiE. Ok, I have a wee bit of an obsession with nude and naturals.

Spring at Peninsula Fair

For the past few months I have been teaming up with my local shopping centre, Peninsula Fair, to show off some great, well priced pieces for Spring. I’m excited about the changing season, I truly love working with local businesses and I love clothes, so this was a complete no brainer!

Spring at Peninsula Fair

Here are a few of my favourite items for Spring at Peninsula Fair I’ve discovered so far.

Office Wear

Shirt from Sussan worn with a skirt from Rockmans. I’m loving the sleeves this season.

Casual Friday

I replaced my usual denim jeans with a denim skirt from Sussan. I’d been looking for a denim skirt everywhere that wasn’t too short, too distressed or too matrony. This was prefect for the office. I’m wearing it with a top I already own but I saw similar ones at Peninsula Fair.

Weekend Wear

I found this Tee shirt dress and plaid shirt at Jay Jays and the Converse at Sportsco.

I look forward to showing you more great pieces as I find them.

What are you looking to add to your Spring wardrobe?

Wearing a fancy dress to the office

I recently picked up this stunning ankle length, Antique Floral dress by LPA from Revolve. Initially I bought it for a wedding but it was too gorgeous to hide in my wardrobe waiting for a special occasion. Beautiful pieces need to be worn!

Wearing a fancy dress to the office

To make it more work friendly and less “I’m wearing a fancy dress to the office“, I pulled up the sleeves, put a black singlet underneath to make the boob window less booby, then added a tan belt and new season Raye heels. I still felt dressed up but I loved it.

Revolve Friends & Family 20% off & Free Shipping

I’ve spent way too much time online shopping at Revolve. I’ve spent hours putting together dream outfits, moving items in and out of my Bag and then switching them around again. But today my friends (and family) is the day to hit checkout.

To celebrate Revolve’s new free Express Post shipping to Australia, they are offering friends and family 20% off.  Auugh, it’s too hard to resist. I might have just added a Privacy Please dress to my Bag. Be warned, this promotion ends on 3 October 2016

Bridget Jones’s Baby Review

One my absolute favourite things is hanging out in a dark cinema with my special people and a huge frozen coke … must always have a frozen coke. Last weekend we started the usual negotiations about which movie to see, but my girls weren’t feeling Bridget Jones’s Baby so I dumped their arses and took off with a few friends to my local Redcliffe Hoyts. Best decision!

Bridget Jones’s Baby Review

I wasn’t expecting much, just a nice time connecting with old friends both on and off screen. It’s been a long time between Bridget Jones movies. The first movie in 2001, when Bridget was 32 years old, the second was in 2004 and this one is 12 years later and opens with her 43rd birthday. Shit! We are the same age.

The big question – Removing Hugh Grant adding Patrick Dempsey?

The best move ever! Hugh who? Patrick as Jack is handsome, charming, charismatic and says all the right things, all the time. A perfect balance against the uptight Mr Darcy. Not even the perfect and wonderful Jack could sway me from Mr Darcy. My forever love.

The screen time with Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth absolutely made the movie. When I think back to my favourite scenes, they were in them all. I’m not going to go into them, but some of the funniest scenes:

  • Group Prenatal Class
  • Getting to the Hospital
  • The Hospital Revolving Door

 A Movie for children?

Definitely Not. Mainly due to the constant f%^$ing swearing and f%$#ing adult themes. Leave them at home for this one.

Score?

I’m going to give it and 8.5/10.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s all about the base

One of the very best ways to make your outfits look great, is to have the right base …. yeah, I’m talking about underwear. Outfits can be lifted to the next level if you have smoother lines, the right support and minimise unnecessary bumps.

I’m a huge fan of nude coloured lingerie and wear it 70% of the time. I mix it up with black or white and then occasionally throw in the a little colour when I want to show it off. I love a little sneaky piece of lace or colour, done in a subtle way.

When my friend offered to come by my office in my lunch break and show me her latest Intimo pieces, I couldn’t resist. It was way too convenient, we got to have a laugh and I got to shop. It was the perfect way to spend my lunch break. She has the ability to look at your chest and know your size immediately. I felt pretty darn smart that I was wearing the correct size already.

IMG_8313

Twenty minutes later and after trying on a few absolutely gorgeous pieces, I decided on a nude set. No surprise there, but after it arrived in the mail and I’ve given it a proper workout, I’m pretty freakin’ thrilled with the set.

Honestly, if you’re in Brisbane, give Carys a call on 0416 776 075, I know she’d love to check out your boobs and set you up too :)

Plus, she’s kindly offered to give Redcliffe Style readers free shipping on purchases, just use the code RACHEL.

Sharing my favourite Winter Jackets

Winter has hit Queensland at last and it’s hit hard. This is the first week that coats and jackets are a necessity and I’ve loved breaking out my favourite Winter jackets.

Sharing my favourite Winter Jackets

I’m completely in love with the wrap jacket. It’s like getting permission to wear a dressing gown in public. This grey one is from Sabena and is a lovely wool mix.

Leather Jacket! This is a must have. If you find a classic one you will wear it forever … over everything. I bought this one in the recent Revolve sale and it’s perfection. This one is sold out but there are a few similar ones at different price points

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Classic Black Coat. This is another great investment piece because they never date and you can wear them to work or dress up a casual outfit – think striped tee, jeans and runners. This baby is from Pretty in Pink stocked at Sabena.

Fluffy Vest. I have so many versions and colours. I love them to keep my chest warm and my arms free. Faux fur automatically makes you seem more glamorous than you actually are. This is another great find at Revolve.

And of course, the denim jacket. My current favourite is from Bohemian Traders … the best denim jacket ever!

Leather Jacket Love

I’ve been wanting a new leather jacket for years now and it’s a purchase I had been putting off. I knew without a doubt it would get excellent cost-per-wear but the initial outlay was hard to find.

Then I found this gorgeous one on sale at Revolve and they had a 20% off everything sale. Insanely cheap! I’m a wee bit obsessed with this shop at the moment and spending way too much time online dream shopping.

A Classic: White shirt and denim

White shirts with denim is an old classic and will around for ever and ever.

A Classic: White shirt and denim

My version of white shirt and denim this week is a gorgeous 1.State shirt I found on online at Revolve Clothing and old, old, worn boyfriend jeans.

The shirt is a combination of so many things I love, off-the-shoulder, eyelet, comfortable and cool.  I love off-the-shoulder but sometimes they completely shit me because they don’t sit off the shoulders right or comfortably. This one does it all well.

A Classic: White shirt and denim

I wearing this with a favourite pair of gold JENNiE runners from FRANKiE4.

Everyone should have a pair of casual, cool runners in their shoe robe. These are perfect for the weekend. Walking the dog, picnics, afternoon sundowners etc, etc.
