Beauty: My Purple Peel Experience

I must admit that I was a little hesitant to book in for a Purple Peel treatment. This is a cosmedical grade, intensive peel and I was a little worried about the discomfort and the down time. I had seen amazing results so I bit the bullet, made the appointment with the Brisbane Anti Wrinkle and Skin Studio and then organised a few days off work.

About the Purple Peel

What is a Purple Peel

The Purple Peel is a cosmedical grade, intensive peel designed to accelerate skin regeneration and resurfacing.

Skin Prep

For at least two weeks prior to your treatment you should:

  1. Wash with the Glycolic Cleanser 12% as this prepares the skin to tolerate the peel a little better.
  2. Use Even Blend Serum. This helps reduce the possibility of hyper-pigmentation. I like to add a little Vitamin C powder to my Serum
  3. And Sunscreen, always sunscreen

Before and after care products - Purple Peel

During the treatment

The treatment was pretty quick, maybe 15 – 20 minutes and was nowhere near as uncomfortable as I’d anticipated. Yes, it was warm-hot but manageable. Or maybe I have a high tolerance to discomfort when it comes to all things beauty related.

After Care

Absolutely no water or moisture exposure for 12 hours after the peel. This includes steam from the dishwasher or shower, sweating or even crying. Absolutely NO water!

You can use the Repair Balm for the next 12 hours as this is an oil based product. I found that I didn’t need to reapply until the next morning after the treatment.

No active products for 3 days but you can use a gentle cleanser, light moisturiser and Sunscreen. Drink loads of water and avoided makeup (and people).

Your recovery time will be affected by your skin and the intensity of the peel. By day six I was good to wear makeup and get back to work.

Thoughts and Results

I definitely peeled but I think I could go a wee bit more intense next time. It was a bit of an emotional journey for me. You’re uncomfortable, look wrinklier, older with peeling skin before you start looking better. It’s inconvenient with the down time but my skin was definitely fresher, clearer and more youthful appearing afterwards.

Would I do it again? Yes, I’ve already booked in!

Here’s a quick video showing my day-to-day recovery – Warning close up images!

My Laser Pigment Removal Experience

For the last few years decade I have noticed increased pigment and discolouration on my face and décolletage. I have been pretty great with sunscreen but not enough for me to travel back in time to 1990 and avoid suntanning.

My pigment and discolouration was easily minimised with makeup but on weekends I’m usually makeup free and thought about how nice would it be to see a slightly less patchy face in the mirror looking back at me.

So, my latest beauty experience at the Brisbane Anti Wrinkle & Skin Studio is laser pigment removal.

My Laser Pigment Removal Experience

When I mentioned that I was off to get this done, most people pulled a pained face or assumed I must be getting treated for hair removal on my face and chest. The pained face didn’t concern me too much because I have a pretty high tolerance for anything beauty related.

About to go in. Makeup free and excited. I was expecting a little pain and was completely okay with it.

My Laser Pigment Removal Experience

Was it painful?

Since it was my first session they started off on a pretty low setting. It was uncomfortable but completely manageable. There were moments of a slightly higher pain (like a muted, quick burn) but it was for very brief moments. Followed by a feeling of being sunburnt. This hot sunburn feeling lasts for about 30 minutes and then fades away. They recommend Skintitut Laser Aid to cool and sooth, which felt amazing. I then forgot about the treatment until my shower that night, when the area felt more sensitive to heat, so I turned down the shower and applied Laser Aid afterwards.

Immediately afterward the treatment you look red and patchy, almost like you are having a reaction to something. As you can see, my chest reacted more than my face. The technician applied Laser Aid and Age Defence 50+ SPF Sunscreen, so you look a bit shiny as well as red, but you are good to get to your car or even go grocery shopping.

My Laser Pigment Removal Experience

Day Two – five

The red fades within hours and when you wake up the next day the brown patches have arrived. For the next few days your pigment will be darker than before but I didn’t feel any discomfort at all. I just avoided low cut tops and wore my normal makeup. No-one seemed to notice the darker patches, or they weren’t interesting enough to comment on.

Week one – two

The brown fades and takes a significant amount of pigment and discolouration with it. My décolletage saw the most obvious results, probably because it was the most damaged. I was amazed with the results after just one treatment and I can not wait to see the results of a second treatment with a higher setting.

Laser Pigment Removal

Would I recommend it?

Yes, seriously excited about the results and I have already booked in for a second round.

Invisalign – Sponsored Post

My teeth are probably the one thing I receive the most compliments on. It’s probably because I’m usually talking or cackling laughing and they are right in your face plus a few years ago I had them improved with Invisalign treatment.

I’ve have always thought that nice, white teeth is one of the best ways to look healthy and youthful and a genuine smile instantly makes you more attractive and approachable.

My Invisalign treatment

Growing Up

Growing up, my teeth were slightly overcrowded. Sure they were strong and white but the front teeth overlapped a little and the bottom row was crooked. I was always self-conscious about them and usually had a tight, little smile to keep them covered. One person even commented that I always looked like I was sucking on a lemon. Nice!

My Invisalign Experience

About 8 years ago I decided to look into doing something about them. I didn’t want traditional braces and I was thinking of porcelain veneers but once reading about them I changed my mind pretty quickly. My dentist mentioned Invisalign treatment. I had no idea what it was but when I looked into it I was very excited. It was exactly what I was looking for, something that didn’t jeopardise the health of my own teeth, was virtually invisible and, even better, was removable. I could still go to corporate events and not have to worry about wearing braces. Perfect!

After a consultation with my Orthodontist, they took moulds and created amazing online before and after images. There was no way I could resist after seeing them! It took about 7 months of switching my trays every two weeks and I ended up with the teeth I had always wanted. Reviewing Invisalign

Now my daughters are at the age where I’m looking into teeth options for them. They had plates as their teeth were growing in but in the near future, they might need a little more work. Hands down Invisalign treatment is my number one choice for them too. They love the idea and are particularly excited that they can just remove their tray for selfies with friends. Perfect for the modern teen!

My New Winter Jackets

As soon as Summer is over, I mentally leap over Autumn and start thinking about my Winter wardrobe.

New Winter Jackets

Things I think about:

  • what’s is missing. I only look to fill gaps;
  • what pieces would merge seamlessly into my current Winter robe;
  • Colours. What colours are in season and are they the same as what I would wear and what colours suit me;
  • textures. I’m not really into prints but I do love something that feels delicious to touch and wear.

Ezibuy offered me a voucher and I knew immediately that it would be going towards a new jacket.  I’d be investing in a jacket. I quickly discovered this gorgeous suede jacket – currently reduced from $179 to an insane $90! This will be a Winter favourite for many years. I love the casualness of tan suede.

My New Winter Jackets

Then with the remain credit I grabbed this sapphire velvet blazer. Velvet is so popular this Winter and I can wear this to work or dress it down with denim.

A couple of clicks and these two fabulous jackets arrived within days.

What are you looking to add to your Winter wardrobe?

Beauty: Feather Stroke Eyebrow Tattoo

I had been thinking for quite a while about feather stroke eyebrow tattoo. My natural eyebrows are pretty ordinary and completely different from each other. I usually spend a lot of time each day filling them in and evening them up. It’s boring and time consuming. Waxing and tinting is excellent and they always look amazing when I leave the salon but quickly revert back to their ordinary, sparse brows within weeks.

But these were tattoos on my face! I needed to consider it carefully and find the right technician.

I obsessively researched, read reviews and googled ‘bad eyebrow tattoos‘. More evidence not to rush into anything and find the right person.

Feather Stroke Eyebrow Tattoo

Marina Veronica operating from Devine Serenity in Scarborough was highly recommended to me, so I met up with her for a consultation. All my concerns blew away and I knew this chick was the right one. She was highly experience, recommended by clients and had her own before and after photos to show me.

We made an appointment for a month later.

The ‘needle’ is actually a disposable hand held micro blade. It’s a series of small cuts implanted with dye. The technician will use a numbing cream to start with, then use another anaesthetic during the procedure. This isn’t pain free but bearable.

The below photos show the before and after, the after is on day two. I had a slight reaction to the waxing due to sensitive skin, but unlike my brows, this is only temporary.

Beauty: Feather Stroke Eyebrow Tattoo

The questions most people have been asking me…

Marina charges $560 for feather stroke eyebrow tattoo and $495 for powder style. Don’t shop around for price, only shop around for the best technician you can find.

This actual appointment took about 2.5 hours. Marina is a perfectionist

Yes, there was a little pain, and it got worse towards the end. It was bearable and Marina is aware of the discomfort and reapplied the anaesthetic during the procedure.

Appearance after

My brows looked full and slightly red tinged but the redness faded by day 3. You can’t wear makeup and have to let the brows recover. No one really noticed unless they knew already. But I understand my brows are going to go through a few stages and complete healing will take about 4 weeks.

Follow up

I have an appointment in 6 weeks to see how they are settling in, fading, colour and make any adjustments. This is included in the price

I love them!! It’s funny waking up with brows but it’s wonderful not needing to fill them in. My makeup time has halved. I feel like I should have done this years ago.

This is a photo from day two. You can see the red tone

Would you consider eyebrow tattoos? Have you done it?

9 Tips for Tween Teen Skincare

I have two gorgeous daughters ages 11 and 13 and I think this is the perfect age to start educating them on skincare and getting them into a simple routine.

It’s easy for a mum to give advice, but sometimes it adds a bit more weight if a specialist backs you up.  Tips for Tween Teen Skincare

I booked them both into see a skin specialist at the Brisbane Anti Wrinkle Studio for a consolation, to discuss a simple routine and also to kickstarted their new skincare regime with a gorgeous, gentle microdermabrasion treatment.

The girls walked out of that room feeling amazing, educated and inspired. Since the appointment, they have both been excellent with their new skincare routines.

Now they just need to keep it up for the next 70 years.

Tips for Tween Teen Skincare

Here are 9 tips for tween teen skincare.

    1. Use a gentle cleanser twice a day. It’s important that it’s gentle and they aren’t over cleansing. Over cleansing can increase oil production and breakouts. We are are using Skinstitut Gentle Cleanser. This is the same one I use and comes it a huge 200ml tube, so it’s great for the entire family. If they play sport or exercise a lot, they might want to throw in an extra cleanse, or use a gentle cleansing wipe.
    2. A very light moisturiser. This will hydrate and protect the skin.
    3. Don’t squeeze pimples. If there are breakouts, use a spot treatment instead. We love Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. Squeezing can cause infections and scarring. If they really can’t resist then see a professional for the extractions.
    4. Sunscreen. Every single day. We are using this 50+ sunscreen because, once again, it’s the same one I use and it doesn’t feel sticky or sunscreeny.
    5. Water, water, water. Tweens need about 7 glasses per day and teens 8 – 10 glasses.
    6. Keep hands away from your face. You want to protect your skin from dirt and germs and your hands are covered in them. Often you don’t even realise you touch your face and hair so much.
    7. Check the diet. The wrong foods can have an affect on the skin and be causing breakouts.
    8. Changing pillowcases regularly. Your pillowcase can hold a build-up of dirt and oil from your skin and hair, then transfer it back to your skin. This can clog pores and cause breakouts.
    9. Don’t share makeup or brushes. They will no doubt be playing and experimenting with makeup, so they shouldn’t share their makeup and brushes with friends, and they need to wash their brushes regularly.

Beauty: Laser Vein Removal Treatment

I’m thoroughly enjoying educating myself and discovering new beauty treatments. This week at the Brisbane Anti Wrinkle clinic I discovered laser vein removal treatment. For a few years I’ve had a couple of small veins or broken capillaries on the side of my nose that got worse after the removal of a basel cell carcinoma.

These small veins can be caused by quite a few things including, trauma, age, genetics, hormones, environment and medical conditions.

I could easily cover them with makeup but throughout the course of the day, they would reappear, giving me a just a slight redness on my nose – like I had cold. The veins were only small and didn’t concern me too much but I also didn’t know it has become so easy and quick to remove them.

Laser Vein Removal Treatment

They used Cutera’s Coolguide which, as the name suggests, cooly slides over your skin before delivering a sharp, warm prick pulse of light energy. It’s completely bearable and the results are instant! 5 minutes later I walked out of there will no little red veins.

How did I not know about this!

I don’t have a great before and after photos, because I didn’t take a before – I didn’t realise the results would be instantaneous! Here is a earlier photo, fully made up, at the beginning of the day but showing the slight redness popping through.

Have you noticed any small veins or broken capillaries? Do they bother you?

Brisbane Anti Wrinkle Clinic in Redcliffe

Glowing, clear skin is something we would all love. Some lucky people are blessed with it, others have to work harder to achieve it plus it gets harder and harder each year!

Many things can affect your skin like the sun, age, dehydration and air conditioning. Makeup can do wonders covering up what’s going on underneath, but it’s much preferable to start off with a great base.

I’ve just signed up to be an Ambassador for the Brisbane Anti Wrinkle Clinic in Redcliffe. Over the next 3 months, I am going to be trying out some of the great treatments and products they offer and sharing them with you. We are going to to be looking at dealing with pigmentation, pores, texture, veins, ageing and whatever else we come across. I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to this!

This week I met with them in my lunch break to come up with a basic plan, start a skincare regime and sneak in a quick microdermabrasion treatment.

I didn’t leave with any redness and, 4 days later, my skin still feels amazing and smooth.

Skincare Regime

I love beauty products but l’ve become pretty slack with my skincare. It’s an eclectic mix of products that I have stumbled upon, or that have stumbled upon me. Not really products that are recommended for my skin type, age or made to work together.

Knowing this, the lovely therapist at the clinic created a Skinstitut regime just for me. She creates a unique 5-a-day regime, perfectly matched to your skin. Have you tried these products? I was really impressed with the products, generous sizing and excellent pricing. Any 5 products are only $149!

That is insane.

Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe – Fifty Shades Darker review

During the week, a buddy and I went to the Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe to watch Fifty Shades Darker. If you’ve been living under a rock, this is the second Fifty Shades of Grey movie. Surprisingly, the audience was filled with very exited ladies who were quite happy to verbalise their appreciation of Christian Grey and his kinky f*%kery.

Fifty Shades Darker review

Once the movie started, I realised that I hadn’t seen the first one. I picked up the story line pretty quickly.

Pants on

Pants off

Pants half on

Sexy music

Pants off again.

This movie is not for the serious movie critic nor is it for the hardcore porn lover, it’s certainly not for the family or to watch with your MIL. This movie is a little distraction from everyday life, doesn’t take itself seriously and almost seems like it’s making fun of itself. It’s full of cliches and dumb lines but it also has a sneaky humour.  It was visually lovely, even the nipple clamps looked nice.

Dakota Johnson has some wonderful outfits and her permanent red lips were inspiringly gorgeous. I’ve been wearing matt red lipstick since I left the cinema.

Also, the soundtrack is definitely worth downloading for your own “special night in”.

More about the Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe

The tickets costs little more but completely worth it, it includes a gift parcel which exceeded the ticket price. I was expecting it to be filled with something kinky but I was equally excited to get the Marie Claire Ageless parcel. This included a serum I already loved and used, plus I discover a few new great products.

Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe - Marie Claire Ageless parcel

The next Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe is on 22 March 2017 and will be a special preview of the Beauty and the Beast. This one looks amazing and I will definitely be taking my girls along to this one too. Check it out here.

I hope to see you there too.

Quick Messy Summer Hair

Quicky messy hair is my go-to hair style. I don’t have the patience or the skill to do anything else. Lucky, a few years ago I taught myself how to do easy beachy waves (you can see the easy video here), else my go-to-do would be a top knot.

Quick Messy Summer Hair

I start with frizzy morning hair. I realise I would get a better result with a blow dry, but I don’t want to damage my hair further with extra heat and this saves time. Before I go to sleep I put some styling product in my hair so it’s ready for styling in the morning, then I give it a spritz of ghd heat protector.

then I grab my ghd platinum copper luxe to give some loose beachy waves – tutorial here.

ghd platinum cooper lux premium

Let the waves cool, then run your fingers through to break them up and look less like ‘sausage curls’

Then because I have very fine hair and not much of it, I will only need one bobby pin. Feel free to grab a few more if you’ve been blessed with a gorgeous mane.

I create a messy 1/2 up do by wrapping my hair around the pony, then loosen it out and give it a good spray with hair spray.

What’s your go-to-do?

My Bedroom Style

There is not much that I love as much as fresh, clean sheets on my bed. If I wasn’t so lazy, I’d probably change them every second day instead of once a week.

My Bedroom Style – It’s all about Comfort

My taste is clean and comfortable, with a touch of boho and always with soft, white sheets. I only own white sheets and this includes the girl’s rooms too. I would love to have a collection of gorgeously printed, sheets to mix and match, but in the end I always go for white. They look so fresh and, with the right products, are easy to keep bright white. No need to worrying about fading.

Bamboo Village

Plus, I don’t like to over accessorise. I need cushions I can throw myself onto, nothing precious, delicate, or uncomfortable and definitely nothing that needs to be removed before you can lay on the bed. Just good tough cushions.

Most importantly, good quality, white sheets. You spend so much time in bed, you want to make it the very best experience you can afford.

At the moment I am obsessed with Bamboo Sheets and currently have a set of Mulberry Threads Co Organic Bamboo sheets (you can buy from Bamboo Village here). This might sound like an expensive mouthful, but they’re not and they are completely worth it. Bamboo are the perfect Summer sheet. Did you know that bamboo is thermal regulating and keeps you cooler in Summer (and warmer in Winter)?

Finish off the look, with a well placed Cavoodle.

Mulberry Threads Co Organic Bamboo sheets

A little bit more about Bamboo

I’ve been a fan of bamboo for years. It started off with a meeting with the lovely ladies from Bamboo Body and still going strong with the great team from Bamboo Village. Bamboo is a is a wonderful fabric for so many reasons:

1. Bamboo Eco-friendly. It’s a natural, highly sustainable resource that requires no chemicals and very little water to grow, plus it absorbs more carbon dioxide from the air than either cotton or timber and releases more oxygen into the environment which improves air quality.

2. It’s Hypoallergenic, naturally repelling dust mites. mould and mildew

3. It has natural antibacterial properties and is 30% less susceptible to odours than cotton

4. It’s highly absorbent, wicking away 60% more moisture from your body than cotton

5. Bamboo is 100% natural and biodegradable

You can read a little more about it here.

This is not a sponsored post, but I was gifted with the product from Bamboo Village. This is a product I love and will purchase over and over for myself and my family.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them Review

I recently took the girls to the Redcliffe Hoyts cinema to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them. The new movie written by JK Rolling, the lady behind Harry Potter. What a fun movie! I haven’t read any of her books, nor watched any of the Harry Potter movies, so I was going in with no expectations, thoughts or assumptions at all.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them Review

I’m not sure I completely understood it but was a ride. As you would expect, Eddie Redmayne as Newt was good. He is always going to be great in anything. But I really loved the relationship between the gorgeous Queenie (Alison Sudol) and Jacob (Dan Fogler). I hope this follows though in the next one.

Oh, and hello to the very handsome Colin Farrell as Percival. He’s always so lovely to see on the big screen.

Visually it was stunning, the costumes, sets, the creatures … all of it.

The whole family really enjoyed it but after the movies (and for a while beforehand) our conversations were all about the newly renovated cinemas.

Redcliffe Hoyts Newly Renovated Cinema

Seriously awesome.

Leather reclining lounges, loads of leg room, generous arm and table space. No more bums in faces when people need to sneak out to pee. You have an individual electric button to raise and lower your seat!! The girls have insisted that this is the only cinema they will ever go to.

Great work Redcliffe Hoyts, I’m looking forward to many more hours curled up on your sofa seats!

Sirens Swimwear: Shopping at home

Summer is almost here and I can feel it all ready. I adore Summer in Queensland. I’m dreaming of long, hot, lazy days with family and friends. Starting the day tossing up between pool or the beach and ending it with sundowners, trying to decide between an icy cold Corona or chilled champagne … and settling on both.

Another hard Summer decision … is swimwear, always swimwear.

Sirens Swimwear: Shopping at home

Like many people, I really don’t enjoy trying and buying swimwear in the store. I’d rather take my time and do it in the comfort of my home. This is one of the reasons I absolutely love Sirens Swimwear. I tried their Try 5 at Home last year and found it so easy and convenient to have a selection sent to me, so I can take my time trying them on. Not only do they make it easy to shop, they also make fantastic, flattering swimwear.

With Summer coming and I was looking for a new swimsuit, it was an easy decision to hit the Sirens website again to selected another 5 to try at home. It was hard trying to decide on only one set. In the end, I had to get my girls to help make the decision for me.

The Girl on the Train Review

Are you a read-the-book-before-the-movie or after the movie type of person? I love a great book and I read The Girl on the Train when it first came out, I’m going to suggest that you avoid the book before you see this movie. Sometimes it adds to the movie and sometimes it doesn’t. I think I was one of the few people in Hoyts Redcliffe not surprised by the twists.

The Girl on the Train Review

Emma Blunt is amazing! She is captivating on screen. She plays the main character, Rachel. Rachel is a raging alcoholic, riding the train and obsessed with a couple she sees through the window, a couple who appear to be deeply in love and living Rachel’s idea of a perfect life. Then one day Rachel sees something upsetting through the train window and the next morning she wakes up covered in blood. Thanks to copious amounts of alcohol, she doesn’t remember anything nor is she a credible witness.

Everyone in the movie is excellent. Excellent, gorgeous and complicated. They might not be likeable but they were very good at being unlikeable. It’s dark and moody and captured the feeling of the novel so very well. It’s hard to say anything without giving spoilers.

For the local readers, a little update on our local Hoyts Redcliffe Cinema. They are currently undergoing a full retrofit! This will be mean superior seating and they will remain competitively priced. This is exciting for the Peninsula.

Just like the our new exciting train station where I took photos of another Rachel, pretending to wait for a train, while completely sober.
