Beauty: My Purple Peel Experience

I must admit that I was a little hesitant to book in for a Purple Peel treatment. This is a cosmedical grade, intensive peel and I was a little worried about the discomfort and the down time. I had seen amazing results so I bit the bullet, made the appointment with the Brisbane Anti Wrinkle and Skin Studio and then organised a few days off work.

About the Purple Peel

What is a Purple Peel

The Purple Peel is a cosmedical grade, intensive peel designed to accelerate skin regeneration and resurfacing.

Skin Prep

For at least two weeks prior to your treatment you should:

  1. Wash with the Glycolic Cleanser 12% as this prepares the skin to tolerate the peel a little better.
  2. Use Even Blend Serum. This helps reduce the possibility of hyper-pigmentation. I like to add a little Vitamin C powder to my Serum
  3. And Sunscreen, always sunscreen

Before and after care products - Purple Peel

During the treatment

The treatment was pretty quick, maybe 15 – 20 minutes and was nowhere near as uncomfortable as I’d anticipated. Yes, it was warm-hot but manageable. Or maybe I have a high tolerance to discomfort when it comes to all things beauty related.

After Care

Absolutely no water or moisture exposure for 12 hours after the peel. This includes steam from the dishwasher or shower, sweating or even crying. Absolutely NO water!

You can use the Repair Balm for the next 12 hours as this is an oil based product. I found that I didn’t need to reapply until the next morning after the treatment.

No active products for 3 days but you can use a gentle cleanser, light moisturiser and Sunscreen. Drink loads of water and avoided makeup (and people).

Your recovery time will be affected by your skin and the intensity of the peel. By day six I was good to wear makeup and get back to work.

Thoughts and Results

I definitely peeled but I think I could go a wee bit more intense next time. It was a bit of an emotional journey for me. You’re uncomfortable, look wrinklier, older with peeling skin before you start looking better. It’s inconvenient with the down time but my skin was definitely fresher, clearer and more youthful appearing afterwards.

Would I do it again? Yes, I’ve already booked in!

Here’s a quick video showing my day-to-day recovery – Warning close up images!

Beauty: Feather Stroke Eyebrow Tattoo

I had been thinking for quite a while about feather stroke eyebrow tattoo. My natural eyebrows are pretty ordinary and completely different from each other. I usually spend a lot of time each day filling them in and evening them up. It’s boring and time consuming. Waxing and tinting is excellent and they always look amazing when I leave the salon but quickly revert back to their ordinary, sparse brows within weeks.

But these were tattoos on my face! I needed to consider it carefully and find the right technician.

I obsessively researched, read reviews and googled ‘bad eyebrow tattoos‘. More evidence not to rush into anything and find the right person.

Feather Stroke Eyebrow Tattoo

Marina Veronica operating from Devine Serenity in Scarborough was highly recommended to me, so I met up with her for a consultation. All my concerns blew away and I knew this chick was the right one. She was highly experience, recommended by clients and had her own before and after photos to show me.

We made an appointment for a month later.

The ‘needle’ is actually a disposable hand held micro blade. It’s a series of small cuts implanted with dye. The technician will use a numbing cream to start with, then use another anaesthetic during the procedure. This isn’t pain free but bearable.

The below photos show the before and after, the after is on day two. I had a slight reaction to the waxing due to sensitive skin, but unlike my brows, this is only temporary.

Beauty: Feather Stroke Eyebrow Tattoo

The questions most people have been asking me…

Marina charges $560 for feather stroke eyebrow tattoo and $495 for powder style. Don’t shop around for price, only shop around for the best technician you can find.

This actual appointment took about 2.5 hours. Marina is a perfectionist

Yes, there was a little pain, and it got worse towards the end. It was bearable and Marina is aware of the discomfort and reapplied the anaesthetic during the procedure.

Appearance after

My brows looked full and slightly red tinged but the redness faded by day 3. You can’t wear makeup and have to let the brows recover. No one really noticed unless they knew already. But I understand my brows are going to go through a few stages and complete healing will take about 4 weeks.

Follow up

I have an appointment in 6 weeks to see how they are settling in, fading, colour and make any adjustments. This is included in the price

I love them!! It’s funny waking up with brows but it’s wonderful not needing to fill them in. My makeup time has halved. I feel like I should have done this years ago.

This is a photo from day two. You can see the red tone

Would you consider eyebrow tattoos? Have you done it?

Brisbane Anti Wrinkle Clinic in Redcliffe

Glowing, clear skin is something we would all love. Some lucky people are blessed with it, others have to work harder to achieve it plus it gets harder and harder each year!

Many things can affect your skin like the sun, age, dehydration and air conditioning. Makeup can do wonders covering up what’s going on underneath, but it’s much preferable to start off with a great base.

I’ve just signed up to be an Ambassador for the Brisbane Anti Wrinkle Clinic in Redcliffe. Over the next 3 months, I am going to be trying out some of the great treatments and products they offer and sharing them with you. We are going to to be looking at dealing with pigmentation, pores, texture, veins, ageing and whatever else we come across. I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to this!

This week I met with them in my lunch break to come up with a basic plan, start a skincare regime and sneak in a quick microdermabrasion treatment.

I didn’t leave with any redness and, 4 days later, my skin still feels amazing and smooth.

Skincare Regime

I love beauty products but l’ve become pretty slack with my skincare. It’s an eclectic mix of products that I have stumbled upon, or that have stumbled upon me. Not really products that are recommended for my skin type, age or made to work together.

Knowing this, the lovely therapist at the clinic created a Skinstitut regime just for me. She creates a unique 5-a-day regime, perfectly matched to your skin. Have you tried these products? I was really impressed with the products, generous sizing and excellent pricing. Any 5 products are only $149!

That is insane.

HoMedics Radiance Microdermabrasion Review and Giveaway RRP $249

I’ve had a few professional Microdermabrasion treatments and I have always loved the results. But I have to be realistic and this isn’t something my budget can extend to at the moment. Basically, the only form of Microdermabrasion I could afford was rubbing salt on my face and then holding my Dyson on it. Not ideal!

So you can imagine how quick I was to agree to review the HoMedics Radiance Microdermabrasion. I love their products, I love a little pampering and I love taking care of my skin.

What is Microdermabrasion?

It is a non-chemical and non-surgical procedure to rejuvenate the skin by powerful mechanical exfoliation. It works by removing the uppermost layer of dry, dead skin cells to reveal fresher skin. It encourages production of a new skin cells with higher levels of collagen and elastin, which will improve your skin’s appearance.

HoMedics Radiance Microdermabrasion Review

The diamond tip exfoliates the skin and the gentle vacuum massages and removes the dead cells. There are 5 settings and I’m currently using the gentlest setting to give my skin time to adjust. I’ve been using it on my face, neck, décolletage and the back of my hands. You look red immediately afterwards, but this fades quickly.

It only take a few minutes a couple of times a week to start seeing the results. At only $249 this is a complete bargain!

A week in my wardrobe

For a short week, it seemed really freakin’ long. I think it was the combination of the school returning and the confusion of the mid week break. Either that or I’m just lazy and easily confused.

A week in my wardrobe

I started off strong with an amazing white dress discovered on the bargain Cue rack in Myer. This just makes me want more white dresses. I did receive one remark that it looked like I was ‘about to play tennis’. Yes, I get that it’s a little costumy and maybe the bouncing pony tail didn’t help, but at least I refrained from white sneakers.

I managed to make it through the day without covering my self with stains.

The dress only needed a pair of heels and it was good to go. These were also a bargain, but Wittner from DFO Brisbane.

A week in my wardrobe OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Australia Day

No plans except for a run. I decided I needed to run 10km before I was allowed to start any Australia Day celebration. I did it! Lola looks like for was eager to go, but she is a little furry anchor. 3 km is her limit.

Another frock. This one is from Leona Edminston. She is always great for low maintenance, comfortable dresses.

I love Chambray shirts. I must own about 6 and I wear them to death. This one was picked up in the recent Just Jean sale. I think it was about $25. It’s already achieved excellent cost-per-wear.

I also fitted in a quick trip to Beautiful You to get my colour refreshed.

This was probably my favourite outfit of the week, my makeup was great and my hair was soft and wavy. It all worked perfectly. Excepted I left my camera at home and there is no evidence of this awesomeness.

I hope you had a wonderfully week and, if you have kids, that they enjoyed their new classes and teachers xx

HoMedics Skin+ Cleansing Rejuvenator system Review and Giveaway RRP $149.95

I’m a little obsessed with trying to keep my 40+ skin clean, fresh and hydrated. Looking after your skin is one of the best ways to look youthful and healthy.

Being an insomniac means I’m always lacking sleep and sleep is naturally one of your skin’s best friends. So if I can’t get the sleep, then I need to make up for it in other ways … like bucket loads of water, good serums, moisturisers and a great skin routine.

I’ve recently added the HoMedics Skin+ Cleansing Rejuvenator system to my routine. I was given the opportunity to review the system and if I liked, then I could run a giveaway. Well guess what, I liked it!

I really like that it worked with my current routine and maximised the effectiveness of my existing, loved products. The HoMedics Skin+ rejuvenating pack has has two devices, an Ultrasonic Cleansing Brush and a Skin Rejuvenating Applicator and is valued at $149.95

My first Professional Photo Shoot

A couple of weeks ago, in the dark of the night, I crept out of bed, threw on some makeup and attempted to tame the frizzes. I then quietly left the house and met the sleepy lovely and talented Helen from Rhubarb Photography down at the beach just as the sun was starting to peak up over the water.

Helen and I had hatched a plan to take a few photos on the beach at sunrise for my first professional photo shoot. This might sound silly, but I was really nervous. I realise I take a million photos of myself, but I don’t love getting my photo taken. I usually need to take 15 50 to get one decent enough to share. My face often does something weird, which I why I’m often hiding under sunnies.

Rhubarb Photography 134_15_011

Rhubarb Photography 134_15_022 Helen helped me relax pretty quickly. It’s hard being uptight when you are surrounded in the gorgeousness of nature, basking in it’s most flattering light with a cool chick just telling you to be yourself.

I can be myself … I can freakin’ rock being myself. *insert dorky laugh*.
Rhubarb Photography 134_15_116 Rhubarb Photography 134_15_019 Rhubarb Photography 134_15_089

And then to make it even more fun ….. Custom Jewellery Co brought down some of their amazing, one-off pieces for the photos. I am obsessed with getting my mitts on one or two of their pieces!

Like this ring …

Rhubarb Photography 134_15_060

Or this delicate Sapphire and Opal one …

Rhubarb Photography 134_15_127 Rhubarb Photography 134_15_130

I had so much fun with Helen and loved the results so much. What I loved about the photos, is that they looked like me. A nicer, happier version of me but I wasn’t photoshopped into a Barbie, I still had my wrinkles and imperfection that make me me.

In fact, I would love to do a photoshoot with Lola … maybe even my daughters can join in. Shit, I’ll let my husband jump in too.

If you’re looking for Helen you can find her here or on Facebook.

Philips Lumea Comfort IPL Hair Removal system review

There is nothing I love more than a little in-salon pampering and maintenance. I would happily spend the day week inside a salon getting the works done. But this is not always possible. Time, money and life all get in the way of my pampering and maintenance fun.

I have been playing with a few awesome at home treatments and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you. You are going to love this one.

Philips Lumea Comfort IPL Hair Removal system review

The Philips Lumea Comfort is an at home hair removal system that applies gentle pulses of light to the hair root. This inhibits hair regrowth and repeating regularly, your hair grows in sparser and finer.

I have never had IPL treatments in a salon but I have heard amazing things and I was aware that it should work well on my skin and hair colour.

This was so easy to use that I was worried I was doing it wrong. The ‘On’ button also has the levels on it. I checked the best level for my skin and hair and went straight up to level 4. You can hold the big button down, it will scan and flash, then you slowly move it up, stop and wait for the next flash. If it doesn’t flash, then it can’t see a contrast between your hair and skin. I will warn you, the flash is bright!

I used it the first time a week ago, I attacked my legs, armpits and my bikini line. There was no pain at all. Either I am super human, or it doesn’t hurt. I’m looking forward to sharing the long term results.

The Philips Lumea Comfort is available at major department stores, leading electronics stores and selected authorised dealers and has an RRP of $549.95.

40 Plus Beauty: Creating a realistic Luminous glow

I love a little luminous glow, nothing will help you look as youthful as gorgeous, hydrated, illuminated skin. But it’s not going to come naturally from me. Life is working against me. Age, insomnia, sun damage, stress all give me a natural dull, matt, finish. It’s not the same.

So I have a few products I swear by to help create a natural, hydrated, luminous appearance. Natural is the key.

40 Plus Beauty: Creating a realistic Luminous glow

As boring as it is, start by drinking bucket loads of water and finding a moisturiser that works for you.

These are the 4 products I use daily …

40 Plus Beauty: Creating a realistic Luminous glow

In order of application:

  1. Klara Reset Glow. This in a new product to my routine and I promise my kit will never be without it. It’s so gorgeous and light and my skin loves it. I treat it as a moisturiser but you can also use it as a primer. You can get it online or at Priceline
  2. Erin Bigg Luminous Foundation. My favourite foundation. It’s even managed to kick Chanel off the top of my favourite list.
  3. Face of Australia Mineral Therapy Illuminator. I have owned this tube for years and years, it’s a bottomless pit of luminating goodness.
  4. Nars Orgasm blush. Seriously, this is everything you have ever heard and more.

40 Plus Beauty: Creating a realistic Luminous glow

Remember, less is definitely better with these products, too much and they will start illuminating the wrinkles. If you feel like to you need a little video to tutorial to demonstrate the products let me know.

HoMedics Newa Skin Rejuvenation Review Update

The Results?

Pro: I love every single moment I get to put my feet up and not do $h1t. I love 24 minutes completely relaxing and guilt free. I’m not going to lie, it’s awesome to use as an excuse not to be able to do any thing around the house

Sorry, I have another 20 minutes of Newa time, can you please finish the dishes

I’ve got to do my Newa tonight, can you please pick the kids up from Taekwondo/Netball/BFF

Sometimes I even exaggerate, just so I can buy more time.

I’ve been slowly seeing the results. My skin definitely feels and looks better and I notice the difference around my jaw line the most.

Con: You can’t use it around the eyes and this is where I’m feeling and looking my age the most at the moment. Plus occasionally, I have struggling a little to find time but when I push through, I relax and enjoy it.

HoMedics Newa Skin Rejuvenation Winner!!!

I’m thrilled to announce that Carly Bates is the winner. Congratulations Carly, I’ll arrange for your HoMedics Newa Skin Rejuvenation System to be sent out as soon as possible. I hope you love it as much as I do.

HoMedics Newa Review and Giveaway valued at $499

I’m 42 years old and I’m willing to try all sorts of things to help me look ok. Potions, ointments, chants, super foods, whatever. I don’t need to look 20 years old, I just want to look like a well-rested, happy 40+er. So, it wasn’t hard to convince to me do a HoMedics Newa Review …. in fact I almost begged for the opportunity.

HoMedics Newa Review

For the past few weeks I have been trialling the HoMedics Newa Skin Rejuvenation system. The device has electrodes that heat up and transmit thermal energy into the deep layers of the skin and help remodel collagen, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve your skin tone. It does sounds pretty awesome!

But, you must commit 24 minutes a day at least 5 times a week for a month and then you can cut down to twice a week. I was a little worried about the time commitment, but I was so curious about the product and prepared to find the time.

I was happy to force myself to sit on the lounge, with my dogs beside me and watching TV. Plus half the time I convinced my children to brush and braid my hair at the same time. It was heaven. I was made to slow down and chill for almost 30mins.

I love that I can do this myself at home, multi tasking between cooking and washing if I really need to.

Even over a short period of time, I did feel my skin tone had improved, especially around my jawline and the laughter lines on my cheeks have lessened. I avoided the eye area and this is the area I would most like to find a solution but I’m looking forward to putting in a few more weeks and checking the results then.

I did take before and after photos but didn’t demonstrate accurately what I feel.

Now a quick demonstration on how easy it is to use …

HoMedics Newa Review Giveaway valued at $499

Now if that isn’t enough! I have one HoMedics News Skin Rejuvenation System (includes unit + gel) valued at $499 to giveaway.

Wrinkles Schminkles Chest Smoothing Kit review and giveaway

When I was first contacted about doing a Wrinkles Schminkles Chest Smooth Kit review, I didn’t think I would be the right fit. Sure I’m 40+, have boobs and sleep on my side but my décolletage stilled looked alright. Then I started to think “Why settle for alright, when you can aim for awesome“. I decided I needed to do something stat to protect one of my favourite assets.

About Wrinkles Schminkles Chest Smoothing Kit

Wrinkles Schminkles are medical grade silicone pads, designed to use overnight to minimise wrinkles and produce smoother skin. The idea is that that when the silicone pads are in place, your skin can’t crease which leads to more wrinkles. And the silicone stimulates collagen and can be used for wrinkles, scarring and stretch marks.

Wrinkles Schminkles Chest Smoothing Kit is a heart shaped piece of medical grade silicone. Just apply this to your clean skin before you go to bed and remove it when you wake up. You won’t even know you are wearing it, unless someone is trying to cop a feel while you are trying to get to sleep.

The Chest and Decolletage smooth pad is $39.95 and reusable up to 20 – 30 times plus you can buy a cleaning solution from Wrinkles Schminkles to increase the uses.

Wrinkles Schminkles Chest Smoothing Kit review

I think this product is amazing. It’s so easy to use, efficient and affordable. This is an area that is often neglected and it does catch up with us. I have only been using this for a few nights and I love the appearance of my smooth chest when I wake up. I’m looking forward to seeing the cumulative results. I’m pretty sure I’m heading towards awesome :)

This is a product I’m going to be happy investing in, plus I’m dying to try out their Forehead and Eye smoothing kit.

No Brush Everyday Makeup

Today I have the stunning creature Kate Ritchie from Loveface Beauty guest posting. If you like beauty and love humour, or even if you don’t love beauty but love funny chicks, this is your new girl crush. You’re going to love her!

Kate is sharing her no brush everyday makeup technique, using great affordable products. This is so great for a quick, easy face.

Kate Ritchie from LoveFace Beauty

Know I’m a little bit excited to be writing this post for Redcliffe Style. Rachel is one of the coolest chicks I stalk online and I’m super stoked that she’s looked past that creepiness so I can share some makeup tips with you.

When my skin is feeling the life sucking effects of the dry winter weather, I have a foolproof makeup routine that gets my face looking alive again and not like an extra from The Walking Dead (freaking’ love you throw in TWD – Rachel). Zero brushes are required, instead I use my patented application technique which is basically smooshing product onto my face with my palms. Sounds primitive, but it works a treat.

No Brush Everyday Makeup

After applying my skincare I start with a layer of Nude By Nature Soft Focus Illuminator all over. This gives a subtle radiance in a neutral colour base that lifts the skin out of the dead zone. It is one of my favourite products of all time and I recommend it to everyone – so, you should probably get it too.

Next comes the Liquid Mineral Foundation, also by Nude By Nature, which I apply all over with my fingers, then I work my palms all over my face, pushing the foundation into my skin, so it looks like I’m not wearing anything. On days when my skin needs a bit more coverage, I love the Physicians Formula CC Cream. It’s also a good option for oilier skins that don’t want the dewy finish of the Nude foundation.

No Brush Everyday Makeup

Like all mothers who enjoy a sanity regaining drink or 10, I have dark circles and bags under my eyes. To pretend I’ve got my shit together and everything’s fine, I use the Nude By Nature Concealer around my eyes, nose, chin and the middle of my forehead. Most women who have ‘elevens’ like me, would Botox them to death, but I like my family to know when I’m angry at them and having a frowny forehead helps to drive that home. Fortunately the Nude concealer tones down the redness in that area so I don’t look constantly annoyed. After all, I do love my family most of the time.

With my base sorted, I then add some colour. The Face of Australia Mineral Therapy Illuminator in Angel Blush, is a super cheap winning dupe for Nars Orgasm Illuminator and I love it. I rub the tiniest bit between the heels of my hands, then roll them over my cheek bones. This creates a subtle highlight and touch of colour that is perfect for an everyday casual look. Using the heels of my hands rather than patting a bit on with my fingers, ensures a more even and natural looking application. There’s no risk of dots or stripes from any unfortunate blending mishaps.

To finish off I add some colour. Firstly, I apply a small amount of Australis Metallix cream eyeshadow in Gold Gaga to my lids using my fingers followed by my favourite mascara, Face of Australia Impact Curl in Black. When all that is done, if I feel like I’m a bit pasty or in need of some sunkissed activity, I take the tiniest bit of the Natio Instant Bronzer, rub it into my palms until it’s almost gone, then yep, you guessed it, smoosh it all over my face with my palms ever so lightly to just leave a hint of warmth and extra glow. A quick slick of Natio Lip Smoothie in Peony to give my pout a natural flush, and I’m done.

I’d like to say that this is a completely brush free routine, but I have to be honest and admit that I can’t go without my eyebrow brush. The fingers just don’t cut it.   I hope you understand.

No Brush Everyday Makeup

Head to toe outfit under 100 dollars

I had a mission this weekend: DFO Jindalee asked me to put together a head to toe outfit under 100 dollars. I will always accept a styling challenge. I LOVE missions like this. I set myself very strict guidelines. They must be pieces I would actually wear and pieces I would buy. I could have put together a hundred outfits.

Head to toe outfit under 100 dollars

After a quick toilet stop (I get excited at the prospect of bargain shopping), I headed straight for Cue and tried on about 10 options. They were all gorgeous and wearable but I had to stay within budget and make sure I had cash left over for shoes.

I chose this amazing dress originaly $225 but down to $67.50. I couldn’t see one good reason why it wouldn’t be full price and it was too lovely to leave. This would be perfect for travelling, parties or a special let’s-celebrate-mummy-for-mother’s-day-dinner.

Next I needed shoes. I realised I only had $32.50 left to spend. It was DFO and I knew I could find shoes but my confidence was weakening … would I find shoes I loved? Shoes I would happily re-wear?

Off to Windsor Smith. Umm, Sandals … $15 originally $100. Are you kidding me!!

Done deal!! I was $17.50 under budget. Head to toe outfit under 100$ DSC_0015 DSC_0009 So, I bought a second pair of shoes from Windsor Smith. These were down to $62 (from $79) and would be great for work. In the back of my wardrobe I found a Jacqui E Blazer bought on an earlier DFO shopping trip. These pieces made my sexy dress more work appropriate. DSC_0041 DSC_0031 If you have the chance to stop by DFO Jindalee, I’d highly recommend it. I’m a lover of gorgeous things but an even bigger lover of finding them at bargain prices. I saw some amazing gift ideas for Mother’s Day *husband hint*.

Sponsored but genuine post. Love DFO, love the pieces I bought :)
