Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe – Fifty Shades Darker review

During the week, a buddy and I went to the Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe to watch Fifty Shades Darker. If you’ve been living under a rock, this is the second Fifty Shades of Grey movie. Surprisingly, the audience was filled with very exited ladies who were quite happy to verbalise their appreciation of Christian Grey and his kinky f*%kery.

Fifty Shades Darker review

Once the movie started, I realised that I hadn’t seen the first one. I picked up the story line pretty quickly.

Pants on

Pants off

Spank

Pants half on

Sexy music

Pants off again.

This movie is not for the serious movie critic nor is it for the hardcore porn lover, it’s certainly not for the family or to watch with your MIL. This movie is a little distraction from everyday life, doesn’t take itself seriously and almost seems like it’s making fun of itself. It’s full of cliches and dumb lines but it also has a sneaky humour.  It was visually lovely, even the nipple clamps looked nice.

Dakota Johnson has some wonderful outfits and her permanent red lips were inspiringly gorgeous. I’ve been wearing matt red lipstick since I left the cinema.

Also, the soundtrack is definitely worth downloading for your own “special night in”.

More about the Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe

The tickets costs little more but completely worth it, it includes a gift parcel which exceeded the ticket price. I was expecting it to be filled with something kinky but I was equally excited to get the Marie Claire Ageless parcel. This included a serum I already loved and used, plus I discover a few new great products.

Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe - Marie Claire Ageless parcel

The next Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe is on 22 March 2017 and will be a special preview of the Beauty and the Beast. This one looks amazing and I will definitely be taking my girls along to this one too. Check it out here.

I hope to see you there too.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them Review

I recently took the girls to the Redcliffe Hoyts cinema to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them. The new movie written by JK Rolling, the lady behind Harry Potter. What a fun movie! I haven’t read any of her books, nor watched any of the Harry Potter movies, so I was going in with no expectations, thoughts or assumptions at all.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them Review

I’m not sure I completely understood it but was a ride. As you would expect, Eddie Redmayne as Newt was good. He is always going to be great in anything. But I really loved the relationship between the gorgeous Queenie (Alison Sudol) and Jacob (Dan Fogler). I hope this follows though in the next one.

Oh, and hello to the very handsome Colin Farrell as Percival. He’s always so lovely to see on the big screen.

Visually it was stunning, the costumes, sets, the creatures … all of it.

The whole family really enjoyed it but after the movies (and for a while beforehand) our conversations were all about the newly renovated cinemas.

Redcliffe Hoyts Newly Renovated Cinema

Seriously awesome.

Leather reclining lounges, loads of leg room, generous arm and table space. No more bums in faces when people need to sneak out to pee. You have an individual electric button to raise and lower your seat!! The girls have insisted that this is the only cinema they will ever go to.

Great work Redcliffe Hoyts, I’m looking forward to many more hours curled up on your sofa seats!

The Girl on the Train Review

Are you a read-the-book-before-the-movie or after the movie type of person? I love a great book and I read The Girl on the Train when it first came out, I’m going to suggest that you avoid the book before you see this movie. Sometimes it adds to the movie and sometimes it doesn’t. I think I was one of the few people in Hoyts Redcliffe not surprised by the twists.

The Girl on the Train Review

Emma Blunt is amazing! She is captivating on screen. She plays the main character, Rachel. Rachel is a raging alcoholic, riding the train and obsessed with a couple she sees through the window, a couple who appear to be deeply in love and living Rachel’s idea of a perfect life. Then one day Rachel sees something upsetting through the train window and the next morning she wakes up covered in blood. Thanks to copious amounts of alcohol, she doesn’t remember anything nor is she a credible witness.

Everyone in the movie is excellent. Excellent, gorgeous and complicated. They might not be likeable but they were very good at being unlikeable. It’s dark and moody and captured the feeling of the novel so very well. It’s hard to say anything without giving spoilers.

For the local readers, a little update on our local Hoyts Redcliffe Cinema. They are currently undergoing a full retrofit! This will be mean superior seating and they will remain competitively priced. This is exciting for the Peninsula.

Just like the our new exciting train station where I took photos of another Rachel, pretending to wait for a train, while completely sober.

The Equalizer Review and Giveaway

I love movies like The Equalizer. It’s exciting, action-filled, bloody and full of Denzel Washington. I watched this at the cinema with my husband. Be warned, this is definitely not one for the children. It is extremely violent and there is A LOT of blood.

The Equalizer Review

McCall (played by Denzel) is a handsome man, living a simple life. He keeps his handsome face to himself until he meets a young Russian prostitute (Chloe Grace Moretz). This forces him to come out of his self-proclaimed retirement as a highly trained hit man with excellent time management skills. He takes on the Russian mafia without breaking a sweat. Ahh, Denzel.

I imagine teenage boys would love this movie as much as I did.

Into the Storm Review and Giveaway valued at $200

I love exciting, action movies but natural disasters kind of freak me out. I start to imagine it could really happen and begin hatching elaborate plans in my head to save my family. I decided to be a big girl and give Into the Storm a whirl (bad pun).

Into the Storm Review

Into the Storm follows storm chasers as they track an unprecedented amount of huge tornadoes as they ravage a small town. These tornados are so big and powerful that not even storm shelters are going to help protect the town. They can can lift airplanes and throw them around like paper planes. It borders on sci-fi at times but the digital effects make it worthwhile.

Into the Storm Review
This would be a great movie to watch with your teenagers over the Christmas holidays. Just don’t start thinking about how we are in the middle of Summer storm season.

My girls gave it a 7/10 and 8/10 but I’m going to give it a 6/10. This might not be the best natural disaster movie ever created but it was exciting, cheesy, entertaining but maybe a little predictable.

Orange is the New Black Season 1 Review and Giveaway!!

I’m going to just say it…ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK IS THE BEST SERIES EVER!!  Let’s just start with the fact I love orange, both the colour and the fruit but this series has nothing to do with either of them.

Orange is the New Black Season 1 Review

Orange is the New Black is based on the memoir of Piper Kerman, Orange is the New Black. I have read the book and they have done a fantastic job making it into a series. Piper (Taylor Schilling) had an relationship with drug running, Alex (Laura Prepon – That 70’s Show) a decade earlier. Now she is settled, engaged and not running drugs but someone gave her name to the authorities and she is forced to pay her debt to society.

This series is so funny, heartbreaking and interesting that I pretty much watched the whole series in one greedy binge. The cast is awesome!! Kate Mulgrew as Red (Star Trek: Voyager), my girl crush Laura Prepon, flying the flag for Australia, Yael Stone as Morello and my favourite Suzanne Warren as Crazy Eyes.

American Hustle Review

If you haven’t heard about American Hustle, then you must live under a rock.

This movie cleaned up in the Awards season. At the Academy Awards it won Best Motion Picture, Best Actor (Christian Bale), Best Actress (Amy Adams), Supporting Actor (Bradley Cooper), Supporting Actress (Jennifer Lawrence). At the Golden Globes it won Best Picture, Best Actress and Supporting Actress and at BAFTA is received Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress and Best Make up and hair.

American Hustle Review

I love every single gorgeous moment of this movie. Christian Bale was an unattractive but charismatic con artist with a complicated comb-over, Amy Adams was 70s perfection as the former-stripper-mistress,  Brady Cooper with his greasy perm was a smarmy, ambitious, drug taking FBI agent and Jennifer Lawrence was Christian Bale’s crazy, vindictive wife.

American Hustle is about a con man (Christian Bale) and his mistress (Amy Adams) who are forced to work with a smarmy FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) to trap Jersey Politicians. The Con man loves his mistress but won’t never his nutty wife (Jennifer Lawrence) because he fears that he won’t see his child if he does.

This movie is funny, scandalous and glamorous with an awesome soundtrack and is a must see!

The Mortal Instruments City of Bones Review & DVD Pack Giveaway!!

One of my favourite ‘jobs’ is reviewing Roadshow movies. I love being force to stop and sit down for 2 hours. I love the moment I’m about to watch a movie I know nothing about and falling into that world for a short while. I also really love that I get to share the movies with you too. I have a few excellent ones coming up for Christmas, so keep your eyes open!!

Today I watched The Mortal Instruments – City of Bones. I thought this might be a little similar to Twilight and I was sort of right but I liked this more than Twilight. In my opinion, it’s darker, a little older and a little sexier. Lily Collins is stunning!! She also doesn’t have a RBF or chew on her lower lip the entire time.

The Story

Clarey’s life is upended when her mother goes missing and she realises that she’s part of a long line of demon-slayers. She also discovers that her memory has been suppressed and fake memories implanted. This also stars the gorgeous Lena Headey and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

This movie is an adaptation the series of best selling books by Cassandra Clare.

This prize would be a really cool stocking filler for someone or a fun movie to watch over the holidays!!

Behind the Candelabra DVD giveaway & review RRP $120

I just watch this over the weekend. Ooh, my freakin’ gosh I loved it. I loved it so much, I haven’t stopped talking about it since. I didn’t know anything about the movie or the story before watching it. I’ll admit that I thought I was watching the story of Siegfried and Roy for the first 30mins. But, then hit myself on the forehead, called myself an idiot and kept going.

What can I say about Michael Douglas? As the flamboyant Liberace, he was perfection. Absolute perfection! I was very slow to become a Michael Douglas fan, but he totally has me now. Matt Damon was fantastic as his partner Scott Thorson.

The highlights

The scene with Liberace and Scott sitting on the lounge, eat popcorn and watching TV. Scott’s legs are draped across Liberace and Liberace is patting his hairy legs like a beloved cat. They are in love, their tummies are round and they are happy.

Scott Bakula. I have loved him since Quantum Leap and will love him forever and ever

Dan Ackroyd. He downplays his role but I loved seeing his face.

The 70s & 80s glamour! The glitz! The costumes! The Rings!

Rob Lowe!!

The Lowlights

I’m not going to say one other word, because I think you should discover this for yourself.

‘The Great Gatsby’ DVD Prize Pack Giveaway RRP $200

I am so excited to have ‘The Great Gatsby’ DVD to giveaway!!  I loved the book and I am a huge fan of the movie.

The casting is perfect! Leonardo DiCaprio was excellent as Gatsby. Tobey Maguire was understated, perfection as Carraway and Carey Mulligan IS Daisy. The only thing I would change in this entire movie is to give Isla Fischer as Myrtle Wilson more screen time. Isla is mesmorising on screen.

Visually this movie is stunning and the costumes are completely amazing. I want to live in this film, drinking champagne, dancing and laughing with tinsel falling around me forever. I might give the car racing a miss though.

The Big Wedding review & giveaway RRP $120

I am not big on ‘girly movies’.  I love going to the cinemas but I prefer action, thriller, Sci Fi or pretty much anything but girly movies. I hate movies that try to make you cry. It makes me build a big wall and challenge them to try. Try as hard as they like to squeeze tears from this heart of stone.

I think that is why I didn’t see “The Big Wedding” when it was in the cinema. It looked like a emotion-manipulator movie.

Sure I talk tough, but I certainly didn’t knock back the chance to review it in the privacy of my home. If a tear rolls down your face and no-one sees it – did it really happen? Nope. I took a chance and it wasn’t like that at all.

This is a rom-com with a huge cast. Sure this story has been done but it hasn’t been done with Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon and Robert DeNiro together with Robin Williams.  It’s fun, it’s predicable but it’s a joy to watch these amazing actors just enjoy hanging with each other. The younger cast was nice but it’s impossible to compete with such amazing talent. When they were I the screen I wasn’t looking at the younger cast.

The Big Wedding Highlights

I cringed and hid my face (while peaking through my fingers), when Diane Keaton accidentally stumbled across Robert DeNiro talking dirty and heading downtown on Susan Sarandon.

There was an emotional father-daughter chat with Robert DeNiro and Katherin Heigl. I’ll admit that maybe two, big tears rolled down my cheeks because it made me miss my dad. I wiped them away immediately and no-one but the dogs heard my sniffing

Lowlights

Katherine Heigl vomiting on Robert DeNiro. I just can’t think vomit is funny ever. It’s right up there with fart jokes.

I thought the gorgeous Amanda Seigfred looked a faction as gorgeous as usual. I was underwhelm by her bridal look and wanted to yell at her to ‘stand up straight and push your shoulders back‘. Her hunching was driving me nuts.

The Big Wedding

This is feel good movie, full of huge stars. You don’t have to think hard, and you don’t feel pressured to understand complicated story lines. Enjoy it for what it is and you’ll find yourself smiling.

Thanks to Roadshow Entertainment, this is another fun movie you can own. I have 3 copies to giveaway.

Life of Pi Movie Review

I was one of the lucky winners of Nuffnang‘s double passes to preview Life of Pi. This isn’t released until January. Woohoo!! Last night, I organised my date for the night, Lisa from Mrs BC’s House of Chaos, got pretty and headed off to Dendy at Portside. We got there with 15 minutes to spare. This is just enough time to have a quick drink and enjoy the river view.

I am a huge fan of Yann Martel’s book and I couldn’t see how this gorgeous, crazy, unbelievable story could be translated to the big screen. Oh, my friggin’ gosh!!! This was simply beautiful. It completely exceeded my expectations. It was amazing in 3D. I think this is one of those movies that should be seen this way. I could really feel the rough seas, the deep bengal tiger growl and the gentle rocking.

The casting was excellent. Suraj Sharma was perfect as 16 year old shipwrecked Pi. I had seen it mentioned that Gerard Depardieu was in it. I am surprised he was even mentioned for the brief 30 seconds he has on screen.

I love Richard Parker!

Thank you Nuffnang and 20th Century Fox for this experience.

LOL movie review with a give way valued at $200

This movie is a remake of a French movie by the same name. It’s a coming of age/love triangle/teen angst/drama movie. I think it’s fine for what it is. It’s not going to change your world or inspire you to start writing fan fiction but it will keep you entertained for 1.5 hours.

Miley Cyrus is the lead and does a fine job. I think she is quite charismatic on screen. Demi Moore is her mum. I am not afraid to admit that I like Demi Moore. I like her voice, it’s so sexy and husky. I want a sexy, husky voice but it would probably sound more drag queeny on me.

The movie touches on teenage sex and drugs so I would recommend this movie for older kids, maybe 14+. The rating is M. I guess it’s like Gilmore Girls dirtied up.

The good bits

  • The mother/daughter dynamic. They were very close and believable. I think Demi and Miley probably really like each other in real life
  • Demi’s voice (pass me the whisky and smokes)
  • Fisher Stephens. I just like him. He is one of those people I call strangely attractive. I wish he had more than 5 minutes screen time
  • Miley Cyrus seemed like she was playing herself. She must be a great actress or she really was just being herself

The bad bits

  • It seemed like a little stray vaseline might have got on lens when they were filming Demi.
  • I thought Demi’s love interest seemed a little young. At 34 year old Jay Hernandaz might even be too young for me
  • I also don’t think the mother would hop on the back of a motor bike 2 minutes after meeting someone for the first time. What kind of message is this giving the young and impressional teens watching this movie?
  • The chicken fondling scene was not necessary
  • Ashley Greene‘s make up

Magic Mike and a DVD giveaway

I am not interested in strippers of any kind. I have had many opportunities to appreciate their work but have always managed to avoid them. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate attractive males and envy gorgeous females but I don’t find dry humping, nude strangers attractive.

I still chose to review Magic Mike. I guess I was swayed by the never-ending, breathless comments I had been hearing. Plus, it would be in the privacy of my own home and I could blame it on doing it for work. What I didn’t except that my Mother-in-law would visit at the same time and we would watch it together. #awkward

If you don’t already know the story, a male stripper called ‘Magic Mike’ (Channing Tatum) introduces a younger male, newly renamed ‘The Kid’ (Alex Pettyfer), to the world of stripping. That world is also inhabited by people called Dallas (Matthew McConoughey), Tarzan and Big D***k Ritchie.

There is also the requisite love interest.

The good bits

  • The bodies are good and they can move. Channing Tatum is a skilful dancer
  • I always enjoy Matthew McConaughey (I just never expected to see him bending over in front of a camera while wearing a tasseled g-string
  • I always enjoy looking at Joe Manganiello. He will alway be Alcide to me (that’s a True Blood reference)
  • I found Tarzan surprising sexy. He was hiding in the back a lot and he couldn’t dance at all
The bad bits
  • There is a lot of swearing. I found it really unnecessary and distracting. Take out 90% of it and it would have been better. I must be a real prude
  • There was a lot of floor humping. Am I the only person that doesn’t find that sexy?
Over all, I enjoyed the movie and I know many, many other women will appreciate it too.
My Mother-in-law thought it was soft porn but managed to sit through it all.
