11 Christmas Gift ideas for women who have everything

I’m going to make it easy for men everywhere. Here are a list of gifts that almost any woman would be happy to receive.

11 Christmas Gift ideas for women who have everything!!

1. Robot Vaccuum cleaner
I don’t even have to explain why. But if you buy someone a vacuum they have to push around, they might not be as excited as you’d hoped. I like this Hoover one for $499 but I’d be happy with anything that sucks dirt and parks itself for recharging.

2. A Ladies Camera bag
There are two I am lusting after at the moment. 3 Annies has gorgeous leather bags for $349. The yellow or silver are my picks. Epiphanie Bags has a statement metallic Chevron synthetic leather for $154.99. If either one is under the tree, then my husband will be the focus of my lust.

3. Apple Mini iPad with Retina display
Seriously, how did I managed with a heavy maxi pad? If I kept using it, I’d have arms like a wrestler. The Apple Mini iPad is great to carry in a normal handbag and light enough that she won’t notice the weight.

4. GHD
Because everyone needs one. The new Wonderland collection is lovely!

5. An Antique Embellished clutch
This gorgeous one is from Bohemian Traders, it’s only $75 and will go with everything. I’d use this to carry my phone, keys and money when I’m running out to the shops. It’s a lot cuter than shoving it all in my bra bag.

6. A Chicken Shaped Tea Cozy
Just because they are awesome. I saw this one in The Tea Centre. How could it not make every cup of tea a richer experience?

7. Gorgeous Sleepwear
Nothing is nicer than nice PJs at the end of a long day. Sussan has just released a stunning Annelise collection. I’m dressing one up here.

8. Behind the Candelabra DVD
This movie is fantastic. Michael Douglas & Matt Damon are magical together. I wish they had a contract that they could only work together from this moment onwards. Roadshow Entertainment releases this on 27 November 2013

9. A Beach Bag
Skipping Girl has the cutest beach bags and you can also order personalised ones. Can you image how impressed your lady will be! Target also has some cute, cheaper ones.

10. A course of Skin peels or facials (or just one)
Also know, as the gift of youth. My skin has never looked better since I started peels. My preferred brand is Image Skincare . If you live locally, I’d certainly recommend Beautiful You Day Spa for the voucher.

11. Moet
She’ll need something to drink when the in-laws leave on Christmas day, she’s slipped into new sleepwear and the Robot vacuum is cleaning the floor.

Behind the Candelabra DVD giveaway & review RRP $120

I just watch this over the weekend. Ooh, my freakin’ gosh I loved it. I loved it so much, I haven’t stopped talking about it since. I didn’t know anything about the movie or the story before watching it. I’ll admit that I thought I was watching the story of Siegfried and Roy for the first 30mins. But, then hit myself on the forehead, called myself an idiot and kept going.

What can I say about Michael Douglas? As the flamboyant Liberace, he was perfection. Absolute perfection! I was very slow to become a Michael Douglas fan, but he totally has me now. Matt Damon was fantastic as his partner Scott Thorson.

The highlights

The scene with Liberace and Scott sitting on the lounge, eat popcorn and watching TV. Scott’s legs are draped across Liberace and Liberace is patting his hairy legs like a beloved cat. They are in love, their tummies are round and they are happy.

Scott Bakula. I have loved him since Quantum Leap and will love him forever and ever

Dan Ackroyd. He downplays his role but I loved seeing his face.

The 70s & 80s glamour! The glitz! The costumes! The Rings!

Rob Lowe!!

The Lowlights

I’m not going to say one other word, because I think you should discover this for yourself.

Frocktober Day 24: Kitten D’Amour dress with a boob window

I’m heading into the office for a meeting today. It’s going to be hot, hot, hot. The best way keep cool? A cotton, Kitten D’Amour dress with a boob window. It keeps you cool just where you need it.

The Dress – Kitten D’Amour dress with a boob window

I love Kitten D’Amour, they are a local Brisbane designer and have the cutest dresses. I own way too many for a lady of 40! Their day dress are the perfect combination of naughty and nice.

The Accessories

Nude fishnets and my favourite red Zola Mary-Janes.

The Rest

A neat pony tail and probably too much makeup. I was having too much fun to stop. Sometimes I really get in the zone.

8 Foods I refuse to eat & 3 I can’t resist

I guess I’m a pretty fussy eater. I try not to to be but I can’t help it.

Here are 8 Foods I refuse to eat:

  1. Meat, fish & chicken. I’m vegetarian and have been since I was about 12 years old. My parents went through a vegetarian phase and I never went back. It started with the taste and the texture and now it’s the idea of eating meat too. My girls are meat eaters.
  2. Capsicum and Mushrooms. These are usually throughout every vegetarian dish. I try to pick through or have little nibbles but I’ve never been able to train myself to eat them.
  3. Turkish delight. It doesn’t matter if it’s fresh or in the chocolate bar section of Woolies. It’s too slimy and makes me dry retch
  4. Yoghurt with lumps. I hate the squishy lumps of fruit.
  5. Gorganzola. I once went to a lovely Italian restaurant but all the vegetarian dishes were heavy with gorganzola. I was okay with eating Gorganzola before I walked in to the restaurant but by the time I came out I couldn’t look at it ever again
  6. Southern Comfort. I realise this isn’t food but when I threw it up after Expo 88 it felt like food. I haven’t been able to drink it since without having a flash back to sitting on the Boardwalk
  7. Crunchy Peanut butter. I love peanut butter but the crunchy pieces completely ruin it. The best peanut butter is the new whipped one
  8. Lindt Chocolate. The texture grosses me out. It’s too smooth and slimy. My husband knows this and only buys this brand so he doesn’t have to share it. Give me good ol’ fashion Cadbury any day

Then breaking all the rules there are a few things I CAN NOT RESIST….

  1. Pork crackling. I know it’s the most disgusting meat on the plant, but it’s so good. Mmmm, salty and crunchy
  2. Caviar. Another disgusting things but the texture is so amazing it’s irresistible
  3. Raw cookie dough. I know it’s full of raw eggs but it’s sooo very good

What food do you refuse to eat and what can’t you resist?

Frocktober: Frock 14 – Verily Half Flower Dress

The Dress – Verily Half Flower Dress

This is a Verily Half Flower dress. My husband often gives me compliments but he doesn’t usually make comments about the clothes. He loves this dress! I think it’s because just showing one shoulder is sexier than showing two.

I love this dress. It’s the perfect length and it moves beautifully.

The Accessories

I’m wearing nude wedges but if I was wearing this at night I’d prefer a brighter and strappier heel. I removed my necklace because I prefer this neckline sans necklace. If I wasn’t so rushed I would have thrown on a pair of big, dangly gold earrings. Next time!

The Rest

Once again, I’m still in lazy holiday mode. A messy low bun but I did make a quick attempt at makeup.

Frock 12 & 13: Moreton Island Glamping

This weekend was spent on Moreton Island glamping. It was fantastic!! I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow.

More importantly, to support Frocktober, I managed to wear dresses all weekend, except for the evenings sitting around the fire.

I had quite a few frocks in rotation but these are the only two I am going to show. The others were repeats or they will be making an appearance later in October.

Frock 12 & 13: Moreton Island Glamping

These are both Cozi by Jennifer Hawkins dresses. I love them because they are strapless, so I don’t get tan lines on my shoulders. I still used 50+ and a scarf to protect my shoulders when it got too hot. I also wore this Seafolly hat and Havaianas all weekend.

No makeup and my hair slicked back with leave in conditioner. I could have been more glamorous, but my lazy side won.

Frocktober Day 10 – Layered Metalicus

I’m taking the challenge and wearing a different frock each day for the month of October to help raise money for Ovarian Cancer research. If you would like to know more about this wonderful charity, you can read about it here

Frocktober Day 10 – Layered Metalicus

I needed to be comfortable. I have two sick children home and I have heaps of errands to run.

The Dress

This basic black dress is Metalicus. This is one of my favourite brands, I did a whole girls weekend in layered Metalicus. This dress was bought in their sales about 3 months ago for $59. It’s one of the handiest dresses I own and it doesn’t require ironing.

The Accessories

An old orange Metalicus vest. I think I bought this new with tags on ebay about 3 years ago for about $10 with. This beautiful scarf from Scarf Girl. She has a great range for only $10 each or 2 for $15. A pair of orange Django & Juliette sandals. I have never liked these sandals. I think they look like old lady shoes, but I did receive two compliments on them already today (from old ladies)

The Rest

A blow-dry and makeup. I have looked like greasy death the last few days, so I needed to put in a little effort.

Selfie tips Part 1: How to pose yourself thin

I’ve been taking more photos of myself in the last year than I have ever before. I’m not comfortable in front of the camera but if you are going to be taking photos and sharing them with the world it’s important to give the appearance of being comfortable.

After spending hours and hours, and editing hundreds of photos to find two acceptable images, I have learnt a few tricks to make myself look better, slimmer, younger, hide the bits I hate and show the bits that I think are sort of okay.

I have decided to share my tips with you in my new series, Selfie tips.

Part 1: How to pose yourself thin

If you are not model slim (and most of us aren’t), then posing straight on to the camera will make you look bigger. Try turning to the side a little or a lot.

Selfie tips Part 1: How to pose yourself thin - Turn side on

Placing a hand on your hip is good and it slims out the arm. It also looks makes you look more approachable. Two hands on the hips doesn’t work as well. I think it makes the hips the focus point, like a frame with arrows saying “Look at my hips”. It also looks like wings and you’re trying to fly away.

Selfie tips Part 1: How to pose yourself thin - One hand on hip

Your arms are in the perfect position and length to hide larger hips or bums. I must have the hardest working arms on the Peninsula.

Selfie tips Part 1: How to pose yourself thin - Use arm to hide hips

If your camera is too high or too low it will give you odd proportions. But, maybe you like odd propoertions, so play with it to find the angle that works best for you.

Selfie tips Part 1: How to pose yourself thin - Check camera angle

When wearing pants, sometimes it helps to create a gap between your legs. This stops the image from looking too ‘blocky’ and shows that you actually have two legs and aren’t a mermaid.

Selfie tips Part 1: How to pose yourself thin - Create space between legs

Use props. Hats, handbags, sunglasses, cavoodles, a letterbox etc. Use whatever you have and work it. The bigger the prop, the smaller you look.

Selfie tips Part 1: How to pose yourself thin - Use props

Also, good posture, stand tall, shoulders back and down but relax your limbs.

Next week I have received some more fantastic tips from someone that actually knows stuff. I look forward sharing these tips too.

What is your best full length photo tip?

Frocktober: Frock 7 – The Stepford Wife

I’m taking the challenge and wearing a different frock each day for the month of October to help raise money for Ovarian Cancer research. If you would like to know more about this wonderful charity, you can read about it here

Frocktober: Frock 7 – The Stepford Wife

This is a Stepford wife look. I’m sure I even walked like a robot while fetching my husband’s pipe and slippers.

The Dress

I bought this dress from Cue for Problogger. I have avoided blue for YEARS and I have only recently embraced it. I think it started when a sapphire appeared on my finger one morning and I fell in love with the deep, rich blue. You would have thought my husband or daughter’s deep blue eyes could have done that, but no.

I love that this dress is made of cotton and can breathe, unlike last week’s pleather shift.

The Accessories

Derr, Stepford Wives wear pearls. So, I wore diamond and pearl earrings and a Flower Mother of Pearl & yellow gold necklace. I wore the Ramarim nude heels again. These babies go with almost anything.

The Rest

A blow-dry with a flip up at the ends. It needs to bounce as I do the vacuuming. Ingot Gun Metal Grey Nail polish, I had to toughen the look up a little bit.

A Melbourne Cup outfit for under $130

Spring is a popular season for occasions that require you to throw off the winter woollies and put on a pretty frock. There is Frocktober, which needs a dress a day for the month of October, all the Spring Weddings and Racing Carnivals. This is a lot of dresses and you can’t just pull out the same one each time.

A Melbourne Cup outfit for under $130

I put together this complete look for under $130. It would be perfect for a Garden Wedding, the races or just because you wanted to wear a dress.

This Yellow dress is beautiful, stylish, modern and sexy while still looking lady-like. The shoes will give you the height you want and the wedges will stop you from sinking into the soft grass. The necklace matches the shoes perfectly and breaks up the yellow, then the very useful and cute yellow hat.

Style tip: You can also go for contrasting, brighter accessories. Orange or cobalt would look amazing.

Beauty tip: Bright lipstick looks fantastic with yellow.

Frocktober: Frock 5 – House dress & vans

I’m taking the challenge and wearing a different frock each day for the month of October to help raise money for Ovarian Cancer research. If you would like to know more about this wonderful charity, you can read about it here

Frocktober: Frock 5 – House dress & vans

I’m picking up my new bike today and then we are going on a family bike ride. We have sporty bikes but this one is a cruiser. It’s so cute and perfect for gentle rides around the Peninsula. A dress & a bike. This might not be a great idea but at least I’m wearing a dress for now :)

The Dress

I guess this is what people in the ‘old days’ referred to as a house dress. I wear this in summer, around the house. It’s so light and comfortable and the colours make me feel cool. I bought this from a surfy shop about 4 years ago. The tag wore out many, many washes ago. I do remember it being a huge bargain.

The Accessories

Purple Vans because sand shoes make a daggy house dress cute. Green fossil sunnies, these were a DFO bargain.

The Rest

Barefaced with a light pink Maybelline lippy & sunscreen. Bed hair in a high pony tail. And pearl earring because I am a laaadiiieee.

Frocktober: Frock 2 – Glam Hippy

I’m having a girly shopping and movie day today. I’m looking forward to sitting in a cool, dark cinema and not having any budgie voices asking a million questions each minute. School holidays can be exhausting.

The Dress

This is a Living Doll dress. I loved it from the first moment I laid eyes on it. It was marked down to $40 and has achieved excellent cost-per-wear.

The Accessories

2 year old Glamour sandals and a gold Mimco head band. This headband was a crazy $15 from their DFO Brisbane outlet.

The Rest

Make-up, all of it. I had to make up for my laziness yesterday.

Frocktober: Frock 1

It’s a blowy day in Brisbane, so it had to be a long dress. I almost threw some tights underneath but I wasn’t going to let the wind beat me.

The Dress

This is a Witchery dress I bought 6 months ago for a crazy $29.95. I wore it before here. I love the clashing colours in it.

The Accessories

This scarf is Witchery too, they have great light weight cotton scarves which get better with each wear. I also wore two of my new Red Phoenix Emporium necklaces. I bought these in their recent instagram sale and I’m pretty thrilled with them. There are still a few items left for sale.

The Rest

Hair knotted to resist the wind, Versace sunnies to hide the bare face and Maybelline Neon Red lippy to make it look like I put in a little effort. School holidays make me lazy.

‘The Great Gatsby’ DVD Prize Pack Giveaway RRP $200

I am so excited to have ‘The Great Gatsby’ DVD to giveaway!!  I loved the book and I am a huge fan of the movie.

The casting is perfect! Leonardo DiCaprio was excellent as Gatsby. Tobey Maguire was understated, perfection as Carraway and Carey Mulligan IS Daisy. The only thing I would change in this entire movie is to give Isla Fischer as Myrtle Wilson more screen time. Isla is mesmorising on screen.

Visually this movie is stunning and the costumes are completely amazing. I want to live in this film, drinking champagne, dancing and laughing with tinsel falling around me forever. I might give the car racing a miss though.
