My Laser Pigment Removal Experience

For the last few years decade I have noticed increased pigment and discolouration on my face and décolletage. I have been pretty great with sunscreen but not enough for me to travel back in time to 1990 and avoid suntanning.

My pigment and discolouration was easily minimised with makeup but on weekends I’m usually makeup free and thought about how nice would it be to see a slightly less patchy face in the mirror looking back at me.

So, my latest beauty experience at the Brisbane Anti Wrinkle & Skin Studio is laser pigment removal.

My Laser Pigment Removal Experience

When I mentioned that I was off to get this done, most people pulled a pained face or assumed I must be getting treated for hair removal on my face and chest. The pained face didn’t concern me too much because I have a pretty high tolerance for anything beauty related.

About to go in. Makeup free and excited. I was expecting a little pain and was completely okay with it.

My Laser Pigment Removal Experience

Was it painful?

Since it was my first session they started off on a pretty low setting. It was uncomfortable but completely manageable. There were moments of a slightly higher pain (like a muted, quick burn) but it was for very brief moments. Followed by a feeling of being sunburnt. This hot sunburn feeling lasts for about 30 minutes and then fades away. They recommend Skintitut Laser Aid to cool and sooth, which felt amazing. I then forgot about the treatment until my shower that night, when the area felt more sensitive to heat, so I turned down the shower and applied Laser Aid afterwards.

Immediately afterward the treatment you look red and patchy, almost like you are having a reaction to something. As you can see, my chest reacted more than my face. The technician applied Laser Aid and Age Defence 50+ SPF Sunscreen, so you look a bit shiny as well as red, but you are good to get to your car or even go grocery shopping.

My Laser Pigment Removal Experience

Day Two – five

The red fades within hours and when you wake up the next day the brown patches have arrived. For the next few days your pigment will be darker than before but I didn’t feel any discomfort at all. I just avoided low cut tops and wore my normal makeup. No-one seemed to notice the darker patches, or they weren’t interesting enough to comment on.

Week one – two

The brown fades and takes a significant amount of pigment and discolouration with it. My décolletage saw the most obvious results, probably because it was the most damaged. I was amazed with the results after just one treatment and I can not wait to see the results of a second treatment with a higher setting.

Laser Pigment Removal

Would I recommend it?

Yes, seriously excited about the results and I have already booked in for a second round.

The Details

Time: The entire treatment only took 30 mins for face, neck and décolletage.

Cost: Prices starting from $36 and the full face, neck and décolletage is $248. PS: if you buy a pack of 3 you get a 15% discount.

Beauty: Laser Vein Removal Treatment

I’m thoroughly enjoying educating myself and discovering new beauty treatments. This week at the Brisbane Anti Wrinkle clinic I discovered laser vein removal treatment. For a few years I’ve had a couple of small veins or broken capillaries on the side of my nose that got worse after the removal of a basel cell carcinoma.

These small veins can be caused by quite a few things including, trauma, age, genetics, hormones, environment and medical conditions.

I could easily cover them with makeup but throughout the course of the day, they would reappear, giving me a just a slight redness on my nose – like I had cold. The veins were only small and didn’t concern me too much but I also didn’t know it has become so easy and quick to remove them.

Laser Vein Removal Treatment

They used Cutera’s Coolguide which, as the name suggests, cooly slides over your skin before delivering a sharp, warm prick pulse of light energy. It’s completely bearable and the results are instant! 5 minutes later I walked out of there will no little red veins.

How did I not know about this!

I don’t have a great before and after photos, because I didn’t take a before – I didn’t realise the results would be instantaneous! Here is a earlier photo, fully made up, at the beginning of the day but showing the slight redness popping through.

Have you noticed any small veins or broken capillaries? Do they bother you?

Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe – Fifty Shades Darker review

During the week, a buddy and I went to the Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe to watch Fifty Shades Darker. If you’ve been living under a rock, this is the second Fifty Shades of Grey movie. Surprisingly, the audience was filled with very exited ladies who were quite happy to verbalise their appreciation of Christian Grey and his kinky f*%kery.

Fifty Shades Darker review

Once the movie started, I realised that I hadn’t seen the first one. I picked up the story line pretty quickly.

Pants on

Pants off

Pants half on

Sexy music

Pants off again.

This movie is not for the serious movie critic nor is it for the hardcore porn lover, it’s certainly not for the family or to watch with your MIL. This movie is a little distraction from everyday life, doesn’t take itself seriously and almost seems like it’s making fun of itself. It’s full of cliches and dumb lines but it also has a sneaky humour.  It was visually lovely, even the nipple clamps looked nice.

Dakota Johnson has some wonderful outfits and her permanent red lips were inspiringly gorgeous. I’ve been wearing matt red lipstick since I left the cinema.

Fifty Shades Darker Inspired matt Red Lip - Maybelline Siren in Scarlet

Also, the soundtrack is definitely worth downloading for your own “special night in”.

More about the Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe

The tickets costs little more but completely worth it, it includes a gift parcel which exceeded the ticket price. I was expecting it to be filled with something kinky but I was equally excited to get the Marie Claire Ageless parcel. This included a serum I already loved and used, plus I discover a few new great products.

Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe - Marie Claire Ageless parcel

The next Girls Night Out Hoyts Redcliffe is on 22 March 2017 and will be a special preview of the Beauty and the Beast. This one looks amazing and I will definitely be taking my girls along to this one too. Check it out here.

I hope to see you there too.

Bridget Jones’s Baby Review

One my absolute favourite things is hanging out in a dark cinema with my special people and a huge frozen coke … must always have a frozen coke. Last weekend we started the usual negotiations about which movie to see, but my girls weren’t feeling Bridget Jones’s Baby so I dumped their arses and took off with a few friends to my local Redcliffe Hoyts. Best decision!

Bridget Jones’s Baby Review

I wasn’t expecting much, just a nice time connecting with old friends both on and off screen. It’s been a long time between Bridget Jones movies. The first movie in 2001, when Bridget was 32 years old, the second was in 2004 and this one is 12 years later and opens with her 43rd birthday. Shit! We are the same age.

The big question – Removing Hugh Grant adding Patrick Dempsey?

The best move ever! Hugh who? Patrick as Jack is handsome, charming, charismatic and says all the right things, all the time. A perfect balance against the uptight Mr Darcy. Not even the perfect and wonderful Jack could sway me from Mr Darcy. My forever love.

The screen time with Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth absolutely made the movie. When I think back to my favourite scenes, they were in them all. I’m not going to go into them, but some of the funniest scenes:

  • Group Prenatal Class
  • Getting to the Hospital
  • The Hospital Revolving Door

 A Movie for children?

Definitely Not. Mainly due to the constant f%^$ing swearing and f%$#ing adult themes. Leave them at home for this one.

I’m going to give it and 8.5/10.

Dyson V6 Absolute Review

We currently live in a teeny, little house that we moved into it temporarily after we sold our much larger house. We were buying some time to decide on the next home and the renter is sorely lacking in space and storage … and light … and air.

In the previous house I had pretty much the biggest, strongest, multi-purpose vacuum cleaner known to man. There was nothing that beast couldn’t do. The downside was that it was huge, heavy, gave me plenty of bruises hoisting it around and took up a bucketload of space. There was no place for it in our new, temporary digs. Not unless I was planning on giving up one of the kids for adoption and using their room for storage.

I’d been eyeing off smaller, neater vacuums but I was biding my time. I felt like if I invested in something, I was committing to living in this hell hole for a little longer.

So when I was invited by Kids Business and Dyson to be their guest at the Brisbane Good Wine and Food Show to learn about the Dyson V6, eat some food and drink some wine and in exchange I would receive a Dyson V6* to review, it sounded like it was all win/win … for me.

Dyson V6 Absolute Review

Cordless Dyson V6 Review

I’d always loved the idea of a Dyson but I didn’t know a lot about them. After learning about the technology, the ease of use and the simplicity of cleaning the system, I was sold.

I love how neat, light (2.2kg) and powerful they are. It has up to 20 minutes running time which is enough time to do my house 2 x over. My girls find it easy to use and they can easily grab it off the charger to clean up their rooms or any little kitchen spills.

It comes with so many great attachments, that help with high ceilings, small areas and even turn it into a handheld for the car. Plus, it’s bagless and just takes one touch to empty into the bin.

I’m in love!

A few more Dyson V6 Absolute details

  • The Dyson V6 Absolute is $899 and comes with the 2 year parts and labour guarantee;
  • It spins up to 110,000 times a minute, drawing in up to 15 litres of air every second to generate powerful suction.The impeller on the Dyson digital motor V6 spins over three times faster than a conventional motor, and ten times faster than the engine of a Boeing 747 aircraft;
  • The Dyson V6 Absolute vacuum has whole machine HEPA filtration which captures particles – including allergens and bacteria – as small as 0.3 microns;
  • There’s a Dyson V6 vacuum for every floor type – carpet, hardwood, tile, stone, lino; and
  • You can buy online at Dyson and all good Department and electrical stores.

*The Dyson V6 Absolute was gifted and I have not received payment except for the awesome vacuum cleaner.

Magic Mike XXL Review and DVD Giveaway!!

Last week I was convalescing on the couch after visiting the skin doctor. I was tender and tired. I though why not take advantage of the girls being at school and me being on the couch and review Magic Mike XXL. My husband happened to be home too. I told him, either get on board or don’t get on board but the express train to toned torsos was at the station.

Magic Mike XXL Review

I had pretty low expectations. I thought it would be an hour and a half of six packs, oily tans, grunts and dry humping. I was sort of right, but I found myself smiling and enjoying it. Sure there was a bit of hard man candy, a few unnecessary scenes but it made fun of itself and I really liked the abs characters. My husband did sit through it and it wasn’t all weird and awkward. In fact, he even admitted to enjoying it too.

  • Derr, Joe Manganiello. The scene in the service station was perfect!
  • Matt Bomer. What a nice boy!
  • Tarzan’s mullet. He somehow makes it work
  • Andie McDowell

  • Amber Heard. So angsty and she looked like she needed a bath
  • Elizabeth Banks. I love her so much and they barely used her.

Ideally, wine and girlfriends would have made it even better.

HoMedics Newa Review and Giveaway valued at $499

I’m 42 years old and I’m willing to try all sorts of things to help me look ok. Potions, ointments, chants, super foods, whatever. I don’t need to look 20 years old, I just want to look like a well-rested, happy 40+er. So, it wasn’t hard to convince to me do a HoMedics Newa Review …. in fact I almost begged for the opportunity.

HoMedics Newa Review

For the past few weeks I have been trialling the HoMedics Newa Skin Rejuvenation system. The device has electrodes that heat up and transmit thermal energy into the deep layers of the skin and help remodel collagen, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve your skin tone. It does sounds pretty awesome!

But, you must commit 24 minutes a day at least 5 times a week for a month and then you can cut down to twice a week. I was a little worried about the time commitment, but I was so curious about the product and prepared to find the time.

I was happy to force myself to sit on the lounge, with my dogs beside me and watching TV. Plus half the time I convinced my children to brush and braid my hair at the same time. It was heaven. I was made to slow down and chill for almost 30mins.

I love that I can do this myself at home, multi tasking between cooking and washing if I really need to.

Even over a short period of time, I did feel my skin tone had improved, especially around my jawline and the laughter lines on my cheeks have lessened. I avoided the eye area and this is the area I would most like to find a solution but I’m looking forward to putting in a few more weeks and checking the results then.

I did take before and after photos but didn’t demonstrate accurately what I feel.

Now a quick demonstration on how easy it is to use …

HoMedics Newa Review Giveaway valued at $499

Now if that isn’t enough! I have one HoMedics News Skin Rejuvenation System (includes unit + gel) valued at $499 to giveaway.

Wrinkles Schminkles Chest Smoothing Kit review and giveaway

When I was first contacted about doing a Wrinkles Schminkles Chest Smooth Kit review, I didn’t think I would be the right fit. Sure I’m 40+, have boobs and sleep on my side but my décolletage stilled looked alright. Then I started to think “Why settle for alright, when you can aim for awesome“. I decided I needed to do something stat to protect one of my favourite assets.

About Wrinkles Schminkles Chest Smoothing Kit

Wrinkles Schminkles are medical grade silicone pads, designed to use overnight to minimise wrinkles and produce smoother skin. The idea is that that when the silicone pads are in place, your skin can’t crease which leads to more wrinkles. And the silicone stimulates collagen and can be used for wrinkles, scarring and stretch marks.

Wrinkles Schminkles Chest Smoothing Kit is a heart shaped piece of medical grade silicone. Just apply this to your clean skin before you go to bed and remove it when you wake up. You won’t even know you are wearing it, unless someone is trying to cop a feel while you are trying to get to sleep.

The Chest and Decolletage smooth pad is $39.95 and reusable up to 20 – 30 times plus you can buy a cleaning solution from Wrinkles Schminkles to increase the uses.

Wrinkles Schminkles Chest Smoothing Kit review

I think this product is amazing. It’s so easy to use, efficient and affordable. This is an area that is often neglected and it does catch up with us. I have only been using this for a few nights and I love the appearance of my smooth chest when I wake up. I’m looking forward to seeing the cumulative results. I’m pretty sure I’m heading towards awesome :)

This is a product I’m going to be happy investing in, plus I’m dying to try out their Forehead and Eye smoothing kit.

The Giver Review & Giveaway valued at $200

I watched The Giver over the holidays with my girls (ages 9 & 11) and my mother and they all loved it. I’m going to call this a coming of age crossed with a sci-fi and a little Pleasantville thrown in.

The Giver Review

The Giver is based on the cult novel The Giver by Lois Lowry. It’s set in an alternative ‘Ideal’ world. There is no pain, war, suffering or disease. The problem with this ideal world is that there is also no colour, memories, choice or love.

The main character is Jonas (Australian Brenton Thwaites), he and his friends are graduating and getting assigned their positions in the community. Jonas has been given the position of the sole Keeper of Memories. This means he gets to hang with Jeff Bridges and learn about the history of the world. This lets him see there is more to life and gradually colour begins to seep into his colourless world. This is a danger to the community and you don’t want to piss Meryl Streep off.

This is a visually lovely and is perfectly fine to watch with the kids.

Into the Storm Review and Giveaway valued at $200

I love exciting, action movies but natural disasters kind of freak me out. I start to imagine it could really happen and begin hatching elaborate plans in my head to save my family. I decided to be a big girl and give Into the Storm a whirl (bad pun).

Into the Storm Review

Into the Storm follows storm chasers as they track an unprecedented amount of huge tornadoes as they ravage a small town. These tornados are so big and powerful that not even storm shelters are going to help protect the town. They can can lift airplanes and throw them around like paper planes. It borders on sci-fi at times but the digital effects make it worthwhile.

Into the Storm Review
This would be a great movie to watch with your teenagers over the Christmas holidays. Just don’t start thinking about how we are in the middle of Summer storm season.

My girls gave it a 7/10 and 8/10 but I’m going to give it a 6/10. This might not be the best natural disaster movie ever created but it was exciting, cheesy, entertaining but maybe a little predictable.

Wentworth Season review and Giveaway!!

I was super keen to watch the Wentworth series when I saw the clips on Foxtel. I remembered the original from 1970/80, I remember the beautiful theme song and then I remember being sent to my room. I was desperate to watch it but I was never allow.

Wentworth Season Review

I caught glimpses of Wentworth season 1 on Foxtel, but I needed to watch it from the beginning and would cover my eyes while running from the room, so I didn’t see anything. I didn’t have any luck trying to order it through iTunes and was going to give up. Then the opportunity to do a Wentworth Season review for season 2 arised and I jumped and caved.

Because I missed the first season and I was worried I would be lost and confused. It took me a few minutes but I got it.

I binged watched this over the weekend. I Loved, LOVED every single moment and character. It was dark, it was sexy, it was ugly, it was everything I hoped it should be.

The original series ran for 692 episodes. Insane! After watching season 2, I’m hoping this series breaks that record.

Wentworth Season 2 Giveaway

If you haven’t watched it yet, now is the time to get on board! Thanks to Roadshow Entertainment I have 4 copies of the complete Wentworth Season 2 to giveaway!

Edge of Tomorrow Review and DVD Giveaway RRP $135

I’m not going to lie…I hesitated to see Edge of Tomorrow. I am not a Tom Cruise fan and I’m not sure I could sit through 113 minutes of TC running. I also had to sit beside my husband fan-girling TC for 113 minutes. It was a tough decision but I decided to go for it.

And I’m so glad I did.

Edge of Tomorrow Review

The movie is set in the future and aliens (Mimics) are invading the earth and winning. Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) is demoted and labelled a deserter. He is then sent untrained to the frontline to battle the Mimics. Cage kills a few Mimics, gets eaten up by their acid-like blood and dies almost as soon as he lands, but not before he sees the ‘hero’ Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) also die. Then he wakes up a day earlier, cuddling his boots, *confused face*. Then he keeps on re-living this day. Imagine a Sci-Fi, Groundhog Day with the excitement of an action movie.

I don’t want to give anything away but this is a funny, clever movie and I really loved it. I had laugh out loud moments and it wasn’t boring or repetitive (if that makes sense for a repetitive sort of story line). Tom Cruise did run. He is a great runner and I really respect that. His character was really well played. Emily Blunt was perfection. She was tough, funny and gorgeous.

This is rated M. No sex scenes, limited swearing, no nudity (one bare bum) and the killings aren’t too gory but there is a lot of death. The Mimics might be a little scary for younger teens.

Quinny Yezz Buggy Review & Giveaway RRP $499

You know how I have my finger on the pulse of all things cool…well I do! While I was at the Brisbane Pregnancy & Baby Expo as part of Blog Power Events, I came across the Quinny Yezz buggy. I was so impressed with the easy of use, mobility and brightness, I immediately arranged to host a give away.

And guess what…here it is!!

Quinny Yezz Buggy Review

It’s been quite a few years since I have needed a stroller. This was was extremely easy to put together and a dream to up and down. It’s products like this that make me clucky. Gorgeous, simple and smart products. To demonstrate the simplicity, I engaged the assistance of a 10yo with no stroller experience.

This buggy is perfect for a busy family. It is a great traveller, because it’s sturdy but folds up small and light (5kg) to fit into a plane overhead cabin. It has a shoulder strap to keep your hands free and make it easy to carry. This buggy is great for ages 6 months – 17 kg but it doesn’t allow the baby to lie flat.

It comes in 5 gorgeous colours. I picked the yellow because it’s like the Queensland sunshine and yellow is the happiest colour ever. I think it’s physically impossible for a baby to cry when it’s surrounded by yellow. I’m fairly certain there are tests out there that prove it.

If you would like to know more details. You can check it out here.

Confessions of a Qantas Flight Attendant?

I downloaded this book to my kindle. I was looking for something unchallenging, light hearted and easy reading. Ok…..I was looking for something trashy!! My haze of flu and codral is still hanging round and I wasn’t up to a challenge of any kind.

This book is certainly not a challenge and is definitely trashy.

Confessions of a Qantas Flight Attendant

If this book is based on true stories, I don’t think I’m EVER going to be able to look a flight attendant in the eyes again. If I do accidentally peer into them, I’m probably going to see enlarged pupils, frustration from having to work through a hangover, resentment that I require another G&T and doubt that I really am vegetarian.

Confessions of a Qantas Flight Attendant
I’m not every going to recommend this book to anyone. But I am curious if anyone has read it, or if they want to redeem their industry and confirm that this book is a huge exaggeration of reality.

While I’m on the subject of trashy confessions.

Confessions of a Brisbane Paralegal

  1. Sexual harassment is alive and well
  2. There were plenty of affairs between Partners, Solicitors and staff
  3. Partners of the law firms were the biggest partiers on Friday nights
  4. In my 15 years, I was sleazed onto, slobbered on, offended and insulted but no one ever doubted I was vegetarian and they never resented passing me another G&T.

Anything you would like to confess?
