Replacing lawn with fake grass

For 7 years we have worked hard to make our little patch of grass beautiful. We have done everything we can think of, we have listened to the professionals, we have fertilised, watered, ripped up and started again. But nothing worked. The middle strip of grass was lush but the side patches were always dirty or muddy and those were the patches the dogs always rolled in.

So, yesterday we took the leap and ripped it all up and replaced the lawn with perfectly, perfect fake grass. It look me quite a long time to come around to the idea. Lovin’ nature and all. But seriously, I wish we did this years ago.

The dogs and children were playing on it with sprinklers all afternoon and the dogs didn’t get dirty!! The girls didn’t complain about ants or bindies!!

Would you ever contemplate replacing lawn with fake grass?

Edit: We hired Lush Turf Solutions to rip out the old, create the base and install the artificial lawn. You can also buy great artificial grass from Bunnings and DIY.

Not sponsored and fully paid for by ourselves.

  1. The quality of my grass goes up and down so much throughout the year. If I was a homeowner I’d consider it – just for the low maintenance factor!

  2. I absolutely need more details on this. We have no lawn due to our staffy.

    • We hired professionals and it cost quite a bit. They brought a skip, removed the old grass, built up and evened base & compounded it etc. It took about 5 hours. I have seen great grass in Bunnings you can DIY and it’s a lot cheaper. We used the company Lush Tuft. I’ll edit my post to include their details :)

  3. We have a section on the left hand side of the front of our house where it is really hard to get grass to grow for a whole host of reasons (too much shade, rubbish soil, too many weeds) – we have tried everything too and are contemplating fake grass now. I would also like some more details on this – cost, what did you put underneath the grass, care etc.

  4. Lisa Mckenzie says:

No I haven’t cause my grass is green and lush but my son is a landscaper and says this new “fake” grass is the best a lot of people have it and love it,great idea Rachel

  5. Wow, this looks great!
    xx

  6. My sister did this at her place – with 4 kids and a dog, she says it’s the best thing ever!

  7. well I would now! Looks great! I’m keen to know how it holds up.

    xo em

  8. We have talked about this in passing and I personally think it’s a great idea. But given that we live on a quarter acre block, it’s a big backyard and we would need a lot of fake grass! I still want to do it one day down the track, I just think it would be so much easier, and the backyard would look so much better!

  9. Considering the state of our lawn at the moment – YES! Not to mention a puppy who loves digging and me, who hates gardening. Our front lawn is just horrible. I think I may just suggest fake lawn when we get to landscaping out the front.

  10. I enjoy reading through an article that can make people think.
Also, thank you for permitting me to comment!

  11. It’s awesome to pay a visit this site and reading the views of all mate about this
piece of writing, while I aam also zealous of getting experience.

  12. My company based in London started off after we had a lot of muddy patches and with 5 kids and a dog it was always a problem. We couldn’t keep up with the maintenance so I went on a course to learn how to lay Artificial Grass.
I installed in myself with 2 friends and after that I had the opportunity to start my own business installing fake turf.
I will recommend it to anyone!
